How is he being a jerk?  He's a professional athlete who gets paid for supplying his services. He made a mistake saying anything in October.

It's called leverage and when you have, you take advantage of it.  He has it right now.  He gets to choose where he plans to spend the next 3 to 4 years.  Who knows, maybe there are a few guys on this team he doesn't particularly like....

Please stop with these type of topics.

I'm sorry but you're just completely wrong.

Forget all the fake reports and nonsense being spread and really listen to what Irving has said.

It doesn't really matter what I think but the odds are apparently now in favor of Irving leaving the Celtics for greener pastures based on his comments and attitude.

What are you going to say about "the Celtics best player" when that happens????

MikeB

So? If he leaves then he leaves. We're fine regardless.

Stop buying in into the speculation and just trust our front office that they are doing their jobs.

I'm tired of posters who would seem to prefer a mediocre team of guys who aren't talented enough to garner media attention to a team that is talented enough to be relevant.

Not sure why so many people are out of sorts about what Kyrie said. I thought it was obvious his statements about re-signing here at the beginning of the season needed to be taken with a huge grain of salt. People say things when they're feeling a certain way/caught up in a moment. It doesn't mean it's written in stone.

We'll see what happens in the off-season.

I'm tired of Celtic fans calling for the team's best player to be traded for literally no reason at all.

Why do irving's supporters keep saying "for no reason at all".  He has provided many reasons for fans to have legitimate concerns about whether or not he is good for this team, long term. His playing style does, in fact, impact ball movement. His constant quotes in the press, whether positive or negative, does create distractions for the team.

Anyone is entitled to support Irving, he ia a great offensive talent. But don't act like there is nothing at all to have a concerned opinion about.

In my opinion calling our player a jerk and hoping he leaves is not a valid reason to make a thread and this adds nothing to the forum.
yeah, this is not one of CS's better moments is it?  :P
I believe Gandhi is the only person who knew about real democracy — not democracy as the right to go and buy what you want, but democracy as the responsibility to be accountable to everyone around you. Democracy begins with freedom from hunger, freedom from unemployment, freedom from fear, and freedom from hatred.

"At the end of the day, I'm going to do what's best for my career, and that's just where it stands. That's just where it stands," Irving said. "And my focus this season is winning a championship with the Boston Celtics. Obviously, we had goals coming into the season, and the primary goal is to win a championship. So that's where my focus is."

Why are people cherry-picking his comments, while ignoring his positive commentary about trying to win a championship this year?

Live in the moment. Enjoy basketball. Worry about next year after the playoffs. Relax.
The only real mistake is the one from which we learn nothing.

Exactly

You say that his playing style impacts ball movement. It does. But the team scores *much* more efficiently when he's at point than when Terry is, and the team's assist ratio remains good. So, the effect on the offense, overall, is clearly positive net of all causes. I also think his style has evolved significantly, and that he will continue to do so. He's a master craftsman, always working on his game. People said he could not pass, but recently he's firing assists left and right. i believe he's already shown he's willing to experiment and try to get other players involved. We are going to need the iso ball in the playoffs, though. By the time you're in game 6 or 7 of a series, your schemes are well, well known to the other team.

As to the constant quotes - I don't remember a lot of quotes. There have been a few, which the media and twitter have gone absolutely bananas with. I don't see him seeking out drama. And I actually appreciate the fact he's not a robot reciting cliches. Most of those guys are lying to you. He said Boston is in the lead, but he's going to do what's best for his career/family. I doubt there's a player in the league (or a GM) who thinks much differently.

Agreed on Kyrie being a jerk.

Disagree on trading him because his trade value is awful right now because of his contract situation.

I don't hope he leaves (well at least not now or without compensation in the summer -- I would like him traded for a star I better like) but I wouldn't be that upset if he does. Because I have never warmed to him and because I think the team is still in awesome shape without him.

Trades are proposed here all the time - In the spirit of this post, I would propose trading Irving now for a great playmaking, pass first, point guard plus a very good off-the-bench knock down shooter, both players solid defenders who would embrace their roles and be a positive fit with our talented roster. Now - are you telling me that would not greatly improve this team's performance ?
