He is so much better as a starter barring the one poor game. His athleticism is ridiculous. He makes some poor decisions as a starter occasionally but you can't ask much more out of your backup. I think he will flourish as a full time starter somewhere or even here if Kyrie walks and we resign him.

Delighted for Rozier. Really pulling for him to succeed.

I hope he leaves this summer for a starter's job somewhere else. He deserves it. Too talented to be a 20mpg bench player.

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
I have always been a Rozier supporter, but the whole thing is kind-of annoying. If he could put up the same type of efficiency/effort/focus off the bench that he does as a starter, teams would be lining up to sign him (even with his reduced role). We talk about how Hayward has to get out of his own head, but the same can be said about Rozier off the bench - even more so.

Exactly. The game against Toronto showed he's capable of impacting the game off the bench. He just has to be engaged and focus.

As a Celtics fan I wouldn’t want him to leave and we get nothing in return.  Maybe a sign and trade would work (even part of a Davis deal).

We could get feelers for offers now.  Something like Rozier for Beverly and a future first round pick, and the Clippers would have their future starting PG (with restricted FA rights this offseason).  Beverly meanwhile would fit in nicely as a backup PG for us.

We don't need Kyrie. We don't need Davis.

We just need to learn how to win on the road.

We don't need Kyrie. We don't need Davis. I like our team the way it is.
:) We don't need Brad and Danny too.
Just give us some food and shelter and we'll be fine.

Why can’t we match any offer he gets and then trade him, even if we have to wait a couple of months?

Hopefully some bad team offers a decent package for Terry.

Maybe that's why Kyrie has been resting so much, to allow Terry to showcase his starter potential.

We won the conference title and made it within one game of the Finals with Rozier starting.

We don't need Kyrie.

So I take it you don't like winning championships?

Because if we get rid of Kyrie to keep Rozier were never winning a championship with this roster.

But as to the point of the thread: yes, it is rather obvious Rozier plays better when he is starting (i.e. playing alongside the Celtics' best players more often and getting a larger share of minutes overall). But it's not really acceptable in my opinion that he plays so selfishly, and poorly, when he is a substitute.

But this is not surprising, and something we knew since last season. Terry will likely (hopefully) get a starters job next year somewhere else, and the Celtics won't miss a beat without him.

The most impressive thing about Rozier last night was his defense. He, in combination with Al Horford, made Walker uncomfortable in the pick-and-roll game. Walker still had a decent game, but that's what great offensive players do.

You could definitely argue Rozier just outplayed an allstar starter last night on both ends of the court.

Rozier outplaying whoever he is matched up against as a starter is starting to become a theme. He's done that to George Hill, Eric Bledsoe, Kemba Walker, De'aron Fox, Kyle Lowry, Jrue Holliday, Ricky Rubio, D'angelo Russell, and more over the past two seasons.
