I see no reason why it wouldn't. Holiday is an excellent defender. Both can play off-ball and shoot, but also make plays. That's a really tough backcourt to stop. I'm hoping for Holiday.

And a line-up with (for example) Irving/Holiday/Brown/Davis/Baynes would be a defensive juggernaut.

Or maybe Williams exceeds expectations and replaces Horford sometime down the road.

Even the best case outcome for Williams will have nowhere close to the skillset Horford has. 

The hope is that Williams can eventually replace and exceed Baynes.  He'll never provide what Horford provides.

Replace Horford in the starting lineup, not in terms of his playing style.

Banyes isn't a shot blocker. No one else in our current roster reminds me of Williams. Best comparison I can think of right now is Noel.

My point is that if you replace Horford with Williams, there's then an enormous gap in the gameplan on both ends of the floor.


Replacing Horford would be really hard because there are so few players in the league who can do all the things that Horford does.

Go after Vucevic (at this deadline) or Beal (either at deadline or this summer) I assume. At least explore those options even if you question fit and trade price.

There was a good ESPN(?) article on Jrue Holiday.  He was raised to be defense first and that he most enjoys defending top offense players.  Even though there were naysayers, Rondo/Holiday worked out great for NOP last season.  Not clear what we'd be giving up but Irving/Holiday would arguably be the best backcourt.  Smart/Holiday would be a defensive nightmare for opposing teams.

I think this totally ruins the season in the short-term.  It's not good news for anyone in that lockerroom trying to build chemistry.  It turns everyone on the Celtics into sitting ducks - especially if we get past the trade deadline and he hasn't been moved to the Lakers.  That REALLY signals that Davis to Boston is being discussed.

It would be a massive kick in the balls if Davis got moved to the Lakers, but the silver lining would be that everyone currently on the Celtic roster would know they are kinda stuck here... a guy like Jaylen Brown couldn't be just dreaming of getting through this season and earning a big contract on the Pelicans... instead, he'd be forced to lock in and try to make it work in Boston.  It might actually help the team rally around one another and make a playoff push.

CBS must love having this added distraction to go along with everything else. Screw Klutch for their timing in all of this.

They are only paying him 5.3M via their MLE because of his injury.  He's going to get a lot more than that this offseason assuming he stays healthy and we won't have the cap space unless Kyrie leaves.
