Do people honestly believe that without Hayward, the team would be with the bucks and the raptors for the number one seed?

I have absolutely no doubt that, absent the handling and play of Hayward, this team would be with the Bucks and Raptors for the number one seed.  We're talking about a difference of 4 or 5 games, and we can all find at least that many games where this issue, and its secondary issues, not existing would have meant a win.

Torn on Hayward right now...really want him to be comfortable and to be able to contribute.

I do think last night he did everything right but score. And there were several times he was wide open and was flat out ignored by his teammates. But when he did shoot he looked terrible.

I think Hayward knows he has issue with his shooting right now. He defers quite a bit, passes up wide open shots and doesn't look too confident at that end of the floor. Right now the thing he loves to do and is great at is a chore. I am sure he is mentally drained and second guessing a lot. He looks so joyless out there at times.

That being said...they have to get more out of him on offense if they want to get where they need to go. He can't score just 2 points a game. He is a key part of this team and needs to contribute. He would prolly agree.

I have kind of accepted that this year is pretty much a waste and a throw away for him. I do not really expect him to find some sort of magic with a few months left in the season. Is what it is. Was super excited for him but now just kind of shrug my shoulders when he comes in.

I also think Hayward is struggling to fit into this team. Utah is such a smaller stage and here in Boston the demand is titles or nothing. I think this has somewhat been an issue for him. Plus the fact his place in the offense is just all over the place.

Wow I was actually right with the "$35M/year Gordon Hayward 2 ppg"

Literally 2 points in 20 minutes tonight, 1 for 6 shooting...without Kyrie on the floor.

15 mill a point...two games in a row

Why are you incessantly complaining? You’re not writing his checks. I could see if he signed and just sucked, but he had a catastrophic injury he is trying to come back from. Enough.

It was a joke...lighten up message board tough guy.

When Hayward doesn't pull the trigger on an OPEN LOOK ,  it hurts me alot worse than a MISS .

This drove me insane with KO .   A dang good shooter too. God awful pump fake and then pass ....ohhhhhhhh I could  spit bullets watching that.

A pass to Rozier who takes a step back contested fadeaway shot that usually is an airball.

I remember watching raptors ball back when jorge garbajosa came over.

When jorge broke his leg he was never the same. Passed up open shots, etc. Same look that hayward does out there

Gordon's in a very difficult position right now and it's no surprise he doesn't really look like he's having fun. As Celticinorlando said, for the most part he looks like he's working hard, defending hard, rebounding hard, trying to facilitate, being unselfish...but when he shoots he just can't get it into the hoop. Doesn't matter if it's from 3, from a (rare) drive, from a pull up, his shooting touch and confidence have totally deserted him. And he can't just shoot his way out of it like Kyrie did the first month of the season because he only has the 5th highest usage on the team at 19% and the ball doesn't always go to him when he is open, or when he is he passes up the shot to pass to someone else that he thinks has a better shot. Doesn't help him on the stat sheet in that sense.

Then he has to face his mental demons about his injury...I fractured my leg a number of years ago and it took 2 years to even start to feel like I could trust it to do the things I used to do, like surfing, skiing and running and I'm not a professional athlete that puts their body under immense stress.

Then to top it all off he has a $30m contract that was signed on the expectation he was going to be the No2 scorer in the team, then he gets injured and nobody from Boston even gets a chance to see what he *could* do (aside from looking at Youtube highlights which look like they're from a different player). Then he comes back and he looks like he's playing in mud. So it doesn't matter what his contribution is, because it's not what we were expecting from someone of that cost. Everyone is like "why are we paying this clown $30m when we could get someone doing what he does for $10m or less?"

And the thing is, that's a perfectly fair question to ask. You could say it's heartless, but professional sport is cruel. You're only as good as your last game. Injuries suck but you're expected to get over it, because time is short. Fans measure you on your contribution now. None of us know Gordon personally, he's just a guy on the court that's not contributing to our team the way we think he should. For many fans there's no room for sentiment, we all see players come and go: "So he broke his leg, big deal. Other people had injuries too and they got over it, why can't he?"

He's got a tough road ahead of him this year, and I suspect it's only going to get worse for him. He probably knows that which is why he doesn't look like he's enjoying himself. I just hope that his teammates have his back because if they don't then this really isn't the place for him. If they're not passing to him because they think he sucks, or they're mad at him for taking "their" minutes, then he will never get out of this hole he is in. His challenge can't be faced alone, he needs his teammates to be behind him.
Any odd typos are because I suck at typing on an iPhone :D

Ahh man, good catch. Completely forgot about this. Have to think this is playing a factor.

Maybe we can pull a Rich Paul move and have a few reporters leak some anonymous sources that other teams were critiquing Hayward, too, specifically in Philly, Milwaukee, and Toronto  ;)
Recovering Joe Skeptic, but inching towards a relapse.

I think so
Once you are labeled 'the best' you want to stay up there, and you can't do it by loafing around.

I thought about this as the Cs destroyed the Warriors tonight.

Thanks unknown Warrior!
