I was just thinking how lucky we are to have smart and his unique abilities and defensive capability... And was having trouble thinking of other players that do what he does

Do they exist? there can't be more than 2 other players In a league of 450+ which is pretty cool

-Bradley is ok but he doesn't take charges. Plus he would be weak or lost  getting around on picks

-Patrick Beverly def comes to mind as a similar player.

-Tony allen like 10-12 years ago, sefolosha like 8 years ago

Luka Doncic.

Yep.

Of course Marcus isn't as talented offensively as Luka but has a court vision nearly as good as his, is a stellar defender (Luka isn't, but he is decent).

Smart is an underrated low post scorer. He'll abuse opposing guards that can't match his physicality. Just ask JJ Redick.

Marcus is seemingly making strides in his shooting, as well.

Overall I've seen Luka make some INCREDIBLE PLAYS...just IMPROBABLE stuff....just like Marcus.

I spoke a couple of weeks ago about a play I saw Luka involved in - where there was a loose ball and he (and an opposing player) made a jump for it. Luka never got control of the ball and fell down BUT the ball was SOMEHOW tipped over to DeAndre Jordan - in FULL stride - for a late game dunk...

Just impact plays.....

Reminds me of Marcus, no lie.

I honestly can't think of any other player like Marcus Smart. He is simply uncanny. He is willing to get DIRTY....Floor Burn Commander....resident Boston Garden Pit Bull...Junkyard Dog.

As long as he controls that temper and don't get tossed (especially when we need him) he helps us in uncanny ways.

I don't think so, and that's why you can't trade him in a deal for Davis. What he brings to the Celtics is so much more valuable than he is as a trade piece. Smart really is a unique player. He's a leader and our culture guard. Smart should be a Celtic for his whole career.

CelticsBlog has good article pointing out similarities in mental toughness and vision of Smart and Draymond Green. That works better for me than the others listed here.

Yeah, tp - that was my initial thought when opening this thread. Why overthink it? Their attitudes, shooting, playmaking, unselfishness, reputation, etc. They just play different positions is all.

You have got to be kidding me...any player except Kyrie is available in a trade for AD...ofcourse it would take the right package but Smart certainly won't be the player that prevents Danny from trading for AD.

I'm saying that if there's any other way than trading Smart (and of course Irving) I take that route.
