Wouldn't Vonleh be considered a nice pickup at the deadline? He's really a poor man's Horford. They play very similar styles. He's on the last year of his deal at a measly $1.5M.

It wouldn't take much to get him...Theis. At least to keep him away from Philly.

He’s an interesting player; why would the Knicks give him to us for Theis, though?

They're similar in how they produce. They aren't similar in styles.

Horford's defining quality is that he makes his teammates better. Vonleh doesn't do that.

I agree he’s no Horford. But when I’ve seen him he seems like a strong, hard nosed player. Good rebounder, hard to move, able to hit threes. An upgrade over Theis.

I'd love us to go after Vonleh, as long as he's available on the cheap.

For what it's worth, he's form Haverhill, Massachusetts. Maybe a Celtics fan growing up?

Here's a quote from him after a pre-draft workout with the C's back in 2014:
(We had #6 at the time and used it to draft Smart. Vonleh got selected at #9.)

Quote from: Noah Vonleh
All the workouts were pretty good, but this one just had a little bit more meaning to it because it's my hometown. Not everybody gets a chance to work out for their hometown team. This is a great opportunity.

It seems like Danny and CBS were both high on him at the time (or at least they had nice things to say about him):

Quote from: Danny Ainge
Obviously, being local here, we've heard about him for a long time. He played in my little brother Crew's high school conference. I saw him play there a few times. He's a very intriguing player, a lot of physical tools, but very young.

If you go back and look at some YouTube clips and highlight mix-tapes that they put on the Internet from his high school days, he's already gotten a lot stronger and he is going to be a very strong kid. He's got a big frame, big legs and shoulders. The physicality has definitely improved. His shooting has improved. One thing you can see from him in high school is he can handle the ball a lot. He played center this year in Indiana, but he played on the perimeter in high school. He can actually dribble pretty well.

(when asked to compare Vonleh with Aaron Gordon and Julius Randle)
They're all very different. I'll tell you, Noah (Vonleh) put up very good rebounding numbers this year. And he shot well from the 3-point line with limited attempts. And he blocked shots pretty well. So those are obviously very important things, and he's one of the youngest players in the draft. I want to say third or fourth. He's still 18 years old. There's a lot of room for growth.

Quote from: Brad Stevens
Noah has got a great, great frame, as you can see. He's strong, he's long. He's got really strong legs. He's a physical guy. He's probably even more physical than I thought when I saw him in person. He's obviously a really good player. His reputation speaks for itself.

Hey if Thon Maker wants out, go grab him. Give the Bucks one of those low #1s and Yabu. They don't even use him and he has good skills.

The Knicks only signed him to a 1 year deal and don’t have his bird rights so if they go over the cap this summer they can only offer him 1.6m +20% for a total of 1.9m.  He’ll end up getting offered more than that this offseason so they idea is they may trade him before he walks for nothing.

Boston in: Vonleh + Ntilikina
NY in: Rozier + Yabu

alternatively (in case NY doesn't want to take Yabu's salary for next season)
Boston in: Vonleh + Ntilikina
NY in: Rozier + Theis + Bird (his contract is fully unguaranteed for next season)

I think New York would say yes. If it were only dependent of this season I would accept this deal as well (but Rozier is necessary in the deal I want to make for Davis). Otherwise good proposal. Ntilikina is a player that could do much better in Boston.

Vonleh would be an excellent addition depending on the cost. He has really developed well this season and looked great against us, plus he fills a need for us.

The Knicks are mainly looking to clear their larger salaries though, like Kanter and Hardaway Jr and Lee, I don't see them having any incentive to move Vonleh unless someone also takes one of those larger contracts along with him.
