when he was a celtics he impressed me with his smart play and passing. but his shooting was abysmal (28% on 3 pointers) and he is physically slow on defense. just not athletic.

heck, if he can now shoot better, why not give him try. i doubt anyone from the g league will move the needle for the celtics.

p.s. i watched the video of him. he is WAY more muscular now than before.
I believe Gandhi is the only person who knew about real democracy — not democracy as the right to go and buy what you want, but democracy as the responsibility to be accountable to everyone around you. Democracy begins with freedom from hunger, freedom from unemployment, freedom from fear, and freedom from hatred.

Welcome back king!   Haven't seen enough gorgeous looking jumpers that clang off the back of the rim this season.

That plus him looking vaguely like Hayden Christianson are the hallmarks of RJ for me.

Yeah. The prototypical “shooter”, except he can’t shoot particularly well.

But, it’s the 17th guy on the roster. Welcome back.

This may be more about getting help for Dozier in the g-league than anything. Dozier has put up not really good numbers and has continued to develop confidence as a play-maker. I think he could be in the NBA next season.

34% from three is not horrible, especially considering the fact that he takes so many 25+ footers. That kind of shooting can be valuable because it stretches the floor even further. For example, Eric Gordon shoots 8 threes a game at 35%. He's not a great shooter, but his shots stretch the floor for the rest of the offense. CJ Miles is another guy who has a shooter reputation because he shoots so many long threes, but he is only at 36% for his career.

I always liked Hunter's potential as a guy who could make the occasional play with the ball in his hands too. His problem has always been that he gets stuck on screens on defense, which makes him a huge liability. I still think he could earn a spot on an NBA roster someday.

He's always reminded me a lot of present-day Nic Batum-lite - a defensive liability, inefficient, slow-footed, but could make the occasional offensive play and his length could help some on defense.
You may well be right. I'm curious about the degree to which he has improved.  They do need another 3 pt shooter in my opinion but on a 2 way he's there for roster filling most likely.

I'm excited by this. I'll never forget watching him and Devin Booker duel it out in Las Vegas Summer League in their sophomore seasons. I know it's a meaningless game, but it was fun to see live.

I always rooted for him to make it, I hope he makes the best out of his second stint.

Lol, I just made a joke about RJ Hunter yesterday.

Quote
"Yeah I was talking to Eddie20 on my podcast this week and he brought up the fact that draft picks are a lot like new cars in that as soon as you use them/take them off the lot, they immediately lose value. I'd say that's certainly the case in reality, but in the Celtic fan community, the picks go from "worthless" to "untouchable" as soon as we draft some guy and he gets a bucket in summer league. Example:

- 2015 #28 pick = Completely freakin worthless
- RJ Hunter after hitting a Summer League three pointer = Future Klay Thompson. Would not trade for god."

Great another guard!! 😣 Hope he grew 6 inches cause we need a center
A disappointing move by the C’s. Baynes is still out, need a big body.

If the Celtics have to part ways with multiple assets in an Anthony Davis trade, I think it's pretty clear that RJ Hunter and Brad Wanamaker will be given every chance to fill out the bench unit.

RJ Hunter absolutely has the talent to carve out a role as an NBA 6th Man. Whether or not he meets it will be determined by his work ethic and professionalism.

Good! He's improved a lot. Very nice guy too.

Serious not sarcastic question -- what has he done to demonstrate improvement?

Looking good in G League this year:  https://gleague.nba.com/player/rj-hunter/

Not going to lie, I was expecting to see 40%+ from 3%... so that is disappointing.
It would be if we were talking about Kyrie but yeah I was expecting his shooting to be improved as that is the only thing that will keep him in this league.
