Just taking some time out to appreciate Marcus Smart. He has been a polarizing figure the past few years but ever since he got inserted in the starting lineup, he’s been playing terrific. He’s been shooting threes at a career high clip this year (33.8%) and those numbers get even better when you only take the games where he’s been a starter (36.4%).

Enter this clip: https://youtu.be/myTgLcE25Xw

I know it’s practice but still, 13 threes in a row is nothing to sneeze at. It’s great to see a guys hard work paying off. TP to you Mr. Smart!

(If anyone could embed the link, that’d be great since idk how to do that)

There are plenty videos of Smart from past years where he looks like Ray Allen.

They (almost) all can shoot.  When fans say things like "I can shoot better than Marcus Smart!" they mean in an empty gym they can shoot better than Marcus Smart in an NBA game. Sometimes they're actually right; problem is Marcus Smart in an empty gym can also shoot a hell of a lot better than Marcus Smart in an NBA game.

That said it's great his in-game numbers are ticking up; Smart as a mediocre outside shooter is a lot more valuable than as a terrible one because he's definitely not scared to take em.

He's streaky. He's had steaks in the past where it looked like he turned a corner and then it all came crashing down. I'm not going to get my hopes up about any shooting until I've seen it for a full season.

That said, Smart currently has the same 3P% as Jamal Murray on the year. If he can hit even 33-35% then he's not a liability as a shooter. With everything else he does, that would be enough.

If you look at his shots closely on the vid, you see that the ball goes to the left or right but still goes in. Great shooters mostly miss short or long, not on the sides.

It's great that he's improving but still ways from being a good shooter, or even a decent one, but I hope I'm wrong.

I think it helps that he doesn’t seem to be taking nearly as many bail out 3’s at the end of the shot clock.  It probably helps he is in the starting lineup and gets more open looks.

I've watched a lot of these shooting practice videos.  Yes, it's just practice, no pressure, no defender, not even breaking a sweat...yawn..

Those last sec hail Marys at every quarter added up.   I guess he was not worried about his percentage and was nobody was covering him because of his low, percentage.

Eventually.   he has to learn to shoot . Im still believing ! :D

I’ve thought Smart’s shot has been a lot truer the last couple weeks. I think he’s got the fundamentals to be ~36%, he just overthinks/rushes the shot. He doesn’t need to force anything, if it’s there, take it.

And as for Williams at the end of that video, he’s playin right into Time Lord. If he doesn’t want that nickname to stick, he can’t go around telling the media stuff like that.

Seriously, this is like talking about the pitcher during a no-hitter. No words. Don't even think about it. Just enjoy it

It's awesome that he's making these improvements after signing his four year deal.  His contract is going to be a bargain.

...or at least an asset in an AD deal rather than just salary filler. I would personally rather keep Smart and deal Horford or Hayward because of their humongous salary obligations, but Tatum/Smart/Sac pick is looking stronger than a lot of other offers out there.

Smart is nearing 40 percent fg, that is a miracle in itself. He is still a horrible shooter, but less horrible.

Its amazing how he has taken more 3's in 16,17 season than Ray Allen did in a few seasons.

The guy has missed 869 three pointers in his career. He has made 370.  Its just insane how he has missed 869 threes.
