What I noticed is that Jaylen's form is different this year. His body is not straight and squared up when he shoots his threes. He should watch some video of Ray Allen.
Brown's form is actually very good and pretty consistent but he looks off balance because he looks to be rushing the shot. It's definitely a confidence thing. He will need to get his head straight to get that confidence.
He looks off balance because he is off balance.
It's not a confidence thing, it's a practice thing.
Its confidence. There's no reason why your balance that was so on point last season, suddenly goes wonky. You could practice all you want, if your head isn't in it, you will miss when you shoot in the actual game. Anyone who has actually played basketball know this. This is why slumps happen even for the best of em.
Exactly. If you have been around enough high performing athletes, if things are not happening now, that was before, it's almost always something mental. JBs shot form and amount of shots are about the same. His form looks the same as last year. It's just he is off mentally and rushes some times and relaxes too much other times. It's obvious it's a mental situation and you can see this because of his consistency of shot form but off in his results. That's balance and that's mostly mental. A little to much or too little adrenaline and you are way off. That's what's happening with Brown.
I'm definitely not an expert of shooting form but I haven't noticed anything different in Brown's shot this year.
His feet aren't together, and his body is not squared up when he shoots.
And at times he's drifting in the direction he was moving prior to beginning his shooting motion.
I've observed these things also. He was a lethal corner 3 shooter last season. His form was consistent throughout the entire season. This year he's all over the place, and taking more 3's from the wings and top of the 3 point line isn't helping.
I also agree that's mostly confidence related. It's like the game sped up for him again and he's rushing things like he did as a rookie. I suspect it's primarily due to chemistry issues with the return of Hayward and a remained uncertainty of what his role on the team is. In turn he's being aggressive for the sake of being aggressive rather than reading the floor when he has the ball and making the right basketball play. His drives are rushed and so are his shots.
I'm concerned about it. But players go through slumps all the time, sometimes even for many months or even a full season. Look at Klay Thompson, a far superior player to Brown, who has shot for his career 42% from 3 including 44% last season. This season he's an abysmal 33.7%, even after putting together that unbelievable 14 for 24 from 3 point game against the Knicks early in the season. I haven't been able to locate the stat but on a radio show one of the radio hosts mentioned that he's shooting miserably when wide open from 3, something in the high 20%'s if I recall correctly.
I'm hopeful Brown will find his rhythm again and I think he will when he understands his role better.
