I love that there is now a shadow avatar - people will now have no choice but to upload one!

With gravatar.com now seemingly the go-to for avatars on CS, would there be a way to make this more visible to new users or people who are not seeing this post? Currently, under the 'forum profile' tab under the 'profile' link, the section to upload your avatar says, Specify your own avatar by URL. (e.g.: http://www.mypage.com/mypic.gif). Maybe the link could now read, 'gravatar.com'. Of course other sites like imgur and resizepic are still options, as well, but it at least would give people a direction without having to search the site for previous threads on this topic.

I really need to emphasize what a great job you've been doing - thank you for everything!

Absolutely. Going to start working it into the rest of the site, this was sort of a stealth first step. We want to modernize the 'account' aspect so that everyone has an avatar (or at least a shadow), can log in with Facebook if they choose, etc.

I'm also looking at bringing back theme support. Currently the new green matches our logo (I know it's a little bright some some people's tastes, but again it's a small step towards modern branding), but it would be cool if people had some options to customize the look.

No, they just use WordPress accounts for the login. You can just register and upload an avatar, and then it will show up here (given the same email address).

Question: Are the emoji's popping up for people?

They aren't for me (just showing some mini-blue/green pic which means it can't show it, and right next to each one there's literally a word or two that describes each one - 'shocked', 'huh?', 'angel', etc.)

Thanks for giving it a whirl! It looks like your profile has an old uploaded avatar attached to it, that currently takes precedence (but is broken). I'll tweak it so that Gravatar overrides old attachments, thanks!

I can put some better documentation together, but definitely not necessary to create a website. Their connection to WordPress is a little confusing, though.

Glad to hear it. It was sort of painful being the "bad guy" to insert ads into the page, but I tried hard to make them relatively tasteful and not damage the experience. I think we accomplished that so far.
