The problem is the Celts don't have cap space or any significant contracts to use to match salary.

The easiest to move contract for trade purposes is probably Morris as an expiring for about $5 million, but he's been pretty important to the team's success so far.

Other than that the guys you'd look to trade are all on lower cost deals.


Some of those names could be useful if they're bought out e.g. Lin, Kanter, Dedmon, Matthews, but that seems unlikely.


I could see Burks or J.R. getting bought out.  Do we want J.R. Smith on this team?

Trying to imagine what this article would have looked like if written before the season:

"With the Celtics slightly over the tax line and Morris struggling to get meaningful minutes thanks to Gordon Hayward's return to All-Star form and the continued emergence of young stars Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum, look for the Celtics to try to unload Morris at the trade deadline."

I think the idea was that the majority of these guys would get bought out if they are not able to be traded. I definitely don't want JR Smith (even if he was still good, and i think he may be cooked). I definitely wouldn't mind Kanter or Dedmon as a buyout guy.

I was just going to talk about these 2 players.  If Danny trades Rozier at the trade deadline, Lin would be an excellent candidate to backfill the open spot if Lin is bought out.

Yup. I also think the Pacers especially Joseph could be sleepers at guard. Aside from guards, I like Dedmon.

I look at that list as guys with very little trade value, and prime buyout candidates.

Celtics could be big players in that market as contenders with the MLE to play with.

Nobody is jumping out at me though, as there isn’t exactly a pressing need at the moment. Maybe a sharpshooter but that’s about it.

Dedmon is the guy I want. Depth big, kind of underrated and very solid too.

Got to hope he gets bought out though, because don't think we can trade for him since he makes about 7M and I don't think we have the contract(s) to get it done salary-wise.
