  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
I sure hope we see more of what we saw last night. Hayward is our highest paid player and was supposed to be the final link in our quest for a championship. People harping on guys like Brown need to lay off - he has gone further in the playoffs than Hayward ever has and was a main reason we we were almost ECF champs.

I LOVE what Hayward brought last game. We can talk about his scoring - and that is important - but there was one rebound he went up for in a crowd where he dismissed everybody else that was in his way. That is the Hayward we need to see more of. He needs to be at least the 2nd best player on our team if we have any chance of really competing for a championship. That is what he was paid the max for.

I think all of us probably forgot a little bit how [dang] good GH is.  He is good at pretty much everything.  He is a good passer and distributes the ball well, great shooter, smart player, not selfish.  Once him and KI get their chemistry going, having the ball go through GH is going to help our offense a lot.

It should be similar to playing through Al, both of them are a threat to pass, drive to the hole, shoot the 3.  We need to get back to playing through Al more as well.  KI has looked really good in an off-the-ball set in the last few games with Smart.  I imagine the same thing happening a lot more with GH as well.

Fans were calling for Hayward's head but Kyrie believed in Hayward and told him the team needs him to be more aggressive and start to take his shots because he is that good. Hayward did just that and has looked great.

His last 5 games:

15.8 PPG
5.8 RPG
4.6 RPG
1 SPG
51% FG%
45% 3PT%
100% FT%
26.1 MPG

And he still isn't 100% yet.

Rollie was right in the time of his post.

Gordon was not ready mentally/fully healthy entering the season (understandably) and hurt this teams chemistry.

He seems to be coming into his own and I respect his willingness to come off the bench and all the hard work he has put in to get back. Good for him and hopefully will continue.

I think we all can get behind gordon playing better and getting back to himself and helping our team

I believe Kyrie and Gordon have a strong relationship, as there were rumors Kyrie tried recruiting him to Cleveland his first time in (restricted) free agency, before LeVron returned.

And Kyrie mentioned having Smart in the starting lineup was nice because he relieved some of the ball handling duties, so he doesn’t have to bring it up every time. Which makes sense, as he played most of his career with LeBron, who handles so much of the offense (always had a higher usage than Kyrie). Kyrie exerts so much energy with his dribble that having players like Smart, Hayward; and even Horford are key to making sure we get a sustained effort from him throughout the game.

Those are great stats in just 26 mpg. Let’s hope he continues to improve.
