what do you guys think of this? Could be a good way to spread the shots around from the first to 2nd unit....where Kyrie/Tatum are the focus of the first unit and Hayward/Brown the second coming out agressive against the other teams 2nd stringers.

I think it’s a nice gesture. Maybe it even is the best move in the interim.

However, I do think our opening night starting lineup would be our best lineup if everyone is performing well.

If the starting lineup is Kyrie, Smart, Morris, Tatum and Horford, we'd be looking at a 2nd unit of Rozier, Brown, Hayward and Baynes (with Theis, Semi, Williams, Yabu...).  Of course, the starters mix in, but, the talent balance of starters to bench would be pretty impressive. 


How many NBA games (presuming an average bench), does a starting unit of TR, JB, GH, Theis/Semi and Baynes win?  In the East, maybe 30 wins -- silly speculation, but illustrative of the talent on this team.

This team's depth will start to pay off as the team rounds into form and other teams begin to struggle.

Alright for now but come playoff time having talent balanced across starters and the bench isn't a plus.  Specifically referring to Hayward on the bench not necessarily Brown.

Not surprised to hear this at all.  I firmly believe the team's struggles have centered around confidence, or lack thereof, more than anything else.  The young guys came into the season believing they would collectively beat down the rest of the league.  Things got off to a poor start and everyone tightened up.  Poor shooting, lack of aggression, and inconsistent effort can all be attributed to confidence issues with the young guys.

My least favorite narrative is that the team was playing "selfish" basketball and trying to get "theirs".  I'd imagine there's a sense of relief that the team might have found a successful starting lineup with Smart and Morris.  I'm expecting to see a trickle down effect to the rest of the team.

This take definitely matches Marcus Morris' interview from a few weeks ago. Basically he said the young guys were having issues shaking off bad games and they were carrying the negative energy into the next game.

There is a lot analytics that say Hayward and Brown don't play well together, yet.  So I'm not sure if a second unit with them both on the floor is the right move.  Some of Jaylen's poor shooting I think can be attributed to lingering issues with his back, but I also think there is some uncertainty in his role when he shares the floor with Hayward.

I like Morris and he's playing well but I think he will regress to the mean eventually. Hopefully when that happens Hayward will have his legs under him and the Celtics can start:

Smart
Tatum
Hayward
Horford

With Brown or Morris first off the bench depending on match up. Morris off the bench also gives the second unit an "enforcer" rather than having our 2 most physical players (Smart and Morris) in the starting line up together.

In the first month.. The struggle of the original starting line up was the constant deferring that happened between Kyrie and Hayward to  an extent.. The team struggled i  sinking threes... Kyrie is an alpha that is bred to score.. His mindset in the last 2 weeks has been to score first, now that he has partnered with Smart in the starting line up, he is free willing in his offensive moves, not concious of GH. Plus Smart makes just the right read and plays with reckless abandon, not to mention he is currently shooting good... Its just the right balance really.

I think for the second unit to thrive, id like to see Brad involve a lot of GH and JB action on the pick n roll, and i a lso like the fact that Kyrie spoke with GH to have the mindset to score more.
Small 2 game sample but seems to be working so i hope it carries on with tonights difficult matchup with the Wolves.
