No Celtics are statistical leaders

According to basketball reference, Celtics have no individual leaders (top-20) in PPG, RPG, ASG, MPG, FG%, 2-pt FG%, FT%.  Al Horford is 20th in BPG and Marcus Morris is 20th in 3-pt FG%.

I think this reflects the balanced and deep roster, and how CBS has spread things out.

That’s always true, but these are not mutually exclusive conditions.  Exhibit: current GSW, or really any historical championship team with several top-10 players.

Last night all 5 starters ranged from 9-16 shots, 4-6 rebounds, and 3-5 assists. We're not going to have statistical leaders, but we have great balance.

It’s interesting, but I don’t expect it to last. Kyrie is routinely one of the top FT shooters in the league. We have numerous guys who can hover around 40% from 3. Multiple guys who can average 20+ppg. Our offence has just started shockingly.

I don’t expect us to get many defensive numbers, as our best defenders (Smart & Horford) don’t rack up many steals nor blocks. But I think our stars will climb up the table

Those 60s Celtics teams were stacked but none of the players had the Wilt, West, Baylor numbers.

The Celtics players play their butts off on defense because certain players lead by example and they are the  4 players listed in the top ten in the NBA for defense.

The Warriors have more fire power, but, the Celtics are the last team they want to play because when the Celtics play the Warriors? They Celtics absolutely hammer them on defense for 48 minutes and take pride in it when they do.

Smart 28 minutes

Beat the Warriors on the GSW's home court (109-106)....because the Celtics beat the spit out of the Warriors on defense. No highlight films, no gold gloves, not an MVP in sight, they just want it more.

I think it's because of how sucky their shooting has been. ;D

What's interesting is that right now, of the Celtics points per game (102.4ppg), 63.9% (65.4ppg) are being scored by the starters and 36.1% (37ppg) are being scored by the bench, which is a pretty significant contribution. Compare this to Golden State, Houston, Lakers, Bucks, Pelicans where 70+% (76% in the Warriors' case) of the points are being contributed by the starters.

I think we have players who *can* dominate statistically if needed (and there will be times when we need them to, particularly during playoff time) but they don't need to because it's more of an ensemble effort, particularly during the regular season.

This team should be looking to the '14 Spurs. They won 62 games with no one playing 30 mpg. Their leading scorer was Tony Parker at 16.7 ppg.

Now, Kyrie is going to average 20 and there will be a couple of games getting more than 30 mpg but in terms of moving the ball and spreading the load, the Spurs are a great model for these Celtics. For everyone, really.
