Just look at that picture of the 5 of them from media day. This is a good looking starting 5. Not a dud in the bunch. Jaylen might be the least handsome of the group and he's still a good looking dude.

They team has come a long way since the days of Bird and McHale.

Some googling got me to the answer of a 16 yo girl to the thread's title: we are in the top-5 but not #1

https://www.reddit.com/r/nba/comments/8qg5ve/oc_ranking_all_30_teams_by_attractiveness/?sort=top

Also, I'm not sure where you are going with this Larry Bird comment

Am I the only one who sees perfection here?

Yep, objectifying men to nothing more than attractive sex objects is totally okay.

Now imagine the outrage if a 16 y.o boy went and ranked WNBA teams by how attractive the women on their rosters were.  The double standard between the sexes is real, folks.

What people call double-standards is often influenced by power.  Thus, many comparisons that appear to be double-standard are not really analogous. But... this is a light thread and should stay that way.

Jayson may not be the best looking of the starting 5, but he has a head of hair like spray paint.  I bet he's in the top 1% in terms of follicles per square inch.

Double standard a little, but as another poster pointed out this is the reverse racism argument all over again. Power imbalance/ marginalization is the overwhelming factor.

That said, I'm just gonna say I find it interesting that Tyler Zeller was last by a WIDE margin...!

There is any number of lists of "hot" female athletes on the internet complete with swimsuit photos and comments on their tattoos, suntan, and body part sizes - if anything I found this reddit post innocuous by comparison.

As for objectifying ppl as sex objects, it sure isn't totally okay, but I don't think this is what she is doing. She is ranking them based on a specific attribute (and she is very open about her criteria being subjective). At least for me, this worked rather nicely as a parody of power rankings.

Guys rank individual female athletes, sports reporters,... by how attractive they are all the time.

I think he'd be congratulated for actually watching the WNBA well enough to know more than 4 starting 5s.

Marco Belinelli is only 4.60, while oafs like Embiid (granted, his personality would give him a lot of points but I don't think it factors into this exercise) and Blake Griffin scored high?  I guess Marco is starting to get the receding hairline, but still...

Jeremy Lin with the disrespect at 4.60 too lol I would have thought that him and Marco would have been some of the higher ranked guys.

Gordie, Rubio, Redick, Splash Bros being ranked high was pretty expected

TP for the link but I don't agree with how she ranked the fellas. She's got Horford as the least handsome starter which is crazy to me. Horford is one of the best looking guys in the NBA. Those eyes, man.

But that does give some good context. And I'm sorry, but Larry Legend was a pretty homely dude and he isn't aging well.

As with most things, it's about context. If a person is only spoken of in terms of their attractiveness (as is often the case with women) then it's a problem. If it's just one, small aspect of a larger conversation about someone, that's not the same thing at all.

What power imbalance? How many whites or males have any actual power?

For starters -- Trump, Putin, and Pope Francis.  Name one female in the world with more power of influence than any of those 3 males.

One step further -- let's talk about the "power" of law-making in the US.  Currently that advantage is 351-84 for the males in the House and 77-23 for males in the Senate.

Or maybe you subscribe to "money is power".  Of the top 10 wealthiest individuals in the world, nine of them are white males.  One is a Mexican man.

Complete straw man. I asked how many whites or males have any actual power, not who has the most power. I don't have any power. Do you? I suspect that very few do.

Even your straw man has some holes in it. Merkel is on the same level as those 3, Theresa May, and we just had a female of our own almost win after we had a black president. Did your argument cease to exist during Obama's term, or were you just silent? Congress is elected by both males and females -- are the females who elect males sexist? You're also making it sound like all of the elected males **** all over women all day every day. And if an evil 1% exists, that makes the other 99% "one of us." That seems like a good representation of equality for the rest of us.

Can't we just hold everyone accountable for themselves and their families without constantly having to come up with excuses and ACTUAL racism/sexism by implying that females/minorities have inherent disadvantages that democrats must solve (in exchange for votes)? Your entire line of thought is racist: "a person who shows or feels discrimination or prejudice against people of other races, or who believes that a particular race is superior to another."

You asked, "what power imbalance?" and I showed you 3.  You mentioned Merkel being equally powerful to those 3 and I'd disagree.  I would put her reasonably high on the list, but probably no better than 5th below those 3 and also Xi Jinping.  Happy to listen to you refuting that opinion of mine with evidence.  Note that you said "almost won" when referring to Hillary.  She didn't win.  As for during Obama's tenure, he was the first black president in the history of the US.  I think during that tenure, that black people did some catching up to white people in terms of "power".  I still think white people are ahead, but I will certainly say that some catching up was made.  I think the world would be a fairer place if more catching up was to be done too.

To be clear, I don't think democrats have to solve these issues of inherent disadvantages.  I think society needs to solve them.  I also never said any race is superior to another and I don't believe that to be anywhere close to true.  I have stated that one race has more power than others (and provided evidence to back that up) and the reasons for that I believe have nothing do with inherent superiority.
