Sign Nick Young? Goodness no. Pure chucker, and he does nothing else.

That's the fun part.  Did you not enjoy Gerald Green's takeover games that much more because he is so inconsistent and unpredictable?

Edit: his hair, mannerisms, etc? Swaggy P offers all the same x2.

Gerald Green was good in the lockerroom though.

Is Swaggy not a good lockerroom presence? He's a world champion, too.

Ha! I appreciate what Gerald brought, but Swaggy P is just ... too much. ;D

In order of preference: Brewer, Young, Jack, Sessions.

In any case, any of them is an upgrade over Bird, esp. for a contender.

My question is I guess can we do this? I'm completely ignorant of what are choices vis a vis dealing with Bird and how a new signing affects cap space and lux tax.

Nothing against any of the options but I think we can replace an end of roster player with practically any g league call-up... Bird would have averaged less than 5 minutes anyway... those can go to Wanamaker

I'd say keep the spot open incase we see a buy out player later in season or get an early jump on a Euro.

No, but for good reason. He was seriously terrible defensively last season, and can't reliably shoot the 3

Normally I'd agree completely, but at the same time if you need a scoring spark off the bench Crawford is the guy (even for just ~ 10 minutes). I know we missed Kyrie and Hayward last year and we did extremely well in the playoffs but there were numerous times/stretches where our offense went ice cold b/c the bench couldn't get the ball in the bucket. Unfortunately that included Game 7 of the ECF.

Whether Bird is out or not, there's no urgent need to sign a free agent. Boston has outstanding depth, especially at the wing and ball-handler positions. Jabari has upside, something that you couldn't say for Nick Young, Brewer, Sessions, Jack, and the others in the OP. (Same for Luol Deng.)

If Bird is gone, don't fill the spot. Boston already has a minutes crunch, with deserving players expecting to play short minutes or not to get into games.
'I was proud of Marcus Smart. He did a great job of keeping us together. He might not get credit for this game, but the pace that he played at, and his playcalling, some of the plays that he called were great. We obviously have to rely on him, so I’m definitely looking forward to Marcus leading this team in that role.' - Jaylen Brown, January 2021

Yeah agreed,

I would think Danny will wait until camp cuts and preseason is over. Maybe even until buyouts later in the season. Plenty of chance to pick up players and be a little picky about who as well.

You're not wrong at all, I just think there are guys who would be better at that role than elderly Crawford.

Nick Young, Corey Brewer and Joe Johnson would all be as suited, if not better, than Crawford at this stage. Particularly the first 2

Eddie House is not walking through that door.
