Sixers have made a HUGE mistake

They should have trade one or two of Simmons+Fultz plus others for Kawhi and get Lebron to sign with them, instead they got caught up the hype of their young core: a guy who has glass body and play center and a guy who forgot how to shoot and a guy who literally can't shoot, guess thats what happens when you don't have real GM. (Ainge will have the Balls to pull that off.)

Now they are in a living hell. a position to be good but never good enough, just back to where they from before they tore them all down, one Embiid injury they will be picking in the top 5 and we will get a 2019 top 5 pick no matter what, the kings pick's value just sky rocket through the roof.

I don’t subscribe to the storyline that LeBron ever considered Philadelphia sincerely. He has a home in LA already, he has an entertainment company, he wants the city that’s best for him as a celebrity and not just a basketball player. 

I do agree, however, that Embiid might not hold up health-wise.

Not sure the King's pick has changed in value at all, but I agree that a Simmons for Kawhi trade would have helped them. Pop probably didn't want that just him, and you can't really gut the roster by adding Saric or Sir Roberto.

I agree, Sixers is never going to be considered favorite compare to LA as you stated, and that's exactly why they should push hard for Kawhi to get Lebron, instead they overvalue their players ,dreaming Lebron will want to play with them.

I mean Simmons was a Big minus in the playoffs, much worse than MCconnell and they saw him as a star lol.

If the kings get first pick we get the Sixers, so if both of them suck into top5 we get a top5 no matter what.

They should trade Simmons+Fultz+Heat pick and try to remain Robert+Saric.

I dunno if it's a huge mistake (yet), but this FA so far is a pure disaster for the 76ers. Not one FA showed any interest in going there and their targets to add someone elite have been reduced.

It's GREAT that Belinelli & Ilyasova are gone. It's GREAT that LeBron is in LA. Even Amir Johnson may be leaving. They are losing their bench. What would be the ultimate kick in the teeth is if they can lose JJ Redick maybe to LA or elsewhere. They still would be very formidable with adding a Kawhi but for how long? Is he a 1 and done. Probably. I am very pleased at Philadelphia's expense today.

Their biggest mistake was looking unstable prior to free agency.

Another one that cost them is losing to us.   Everyone but the idiots in Philly and some media blokes know, we beat them with their star picks without our two best players.  Would you want to go to a team like that?

It was also his first season/first playoffs. You don't give up on a young player with star potential (at a position that tends to take a while to really develop at) after one season.

I don't think Philly made any mistakes they are sticking to a young core that has a lot of talent assuming Fultz gets his shot back. Saying all that I do agree with your assessment of the roster but if I was them I'd gamble it works too.

Simmons is 21, Embiid and Saric are 24, heck Fultz just turned 20.  Even Covington is only 27.  This notion that the Sixers are only ever going to be good and not great is pretty silly.  Now sure, maybe those guys don't develop or they get hurt, but writing off a team that young with that much talent is just pure and utter nonsense.

It is hard to say if the Sixers made a mistake or not.  I agree that it was a good play to go hard to trade for Kawhi to help get LeBron but I am not sure LeBron was ever really in play for them.  It feels like it was LAL all along.

If LeBron was never going to come to the Sixers, then it changes the calculus on Kawhi quite a bit.  If LeBron and Kawhi were there, it is a good risk that they both stay.  If they trade for just Kawhi, they give up some of their young core, probably still don't beat the Celtics, and then it seems likely that Kawhi goes to LAL or somewhere which would be an even bigger mistake for Philly.

I think what Philly did is give a lukewarm offer to SAS for Kawhi figuring they would up it if they got LeBron.  They didn't get LeBron so now Kawhi is probably a one year rental for them.  I would still give up Fultz but probably not Simmons or Embiid.  Kawhi, Simmons, + Embiid along with whatever FAs they can pick up could make a run at the finals but are probably not better than the Celtics on paper.  I would understand totally if Philly decided to back off on trading for Kawhi and just sign the best FAs that they can this year.

TP  Completely Agree.  It was only 1 of 2 places.  LA and Cleveland.  Those are the two places he lives.  IMO it came down to.  Hey kids and wifey.  100% LA or summers LA and school Cleveland.  Obviously they all chose LA.  It makes the most sense post playing career as well.  I feel this decision was made a long time ago.  Everyone thought this but the whole PHilly thing with their cap and young guys made sense to some people but never to me.  LBJ is a family man and if he went to Philly he wouldn't see his kids during the season since they would probably stay in Cleveland.  Glad the King is gone from the East.  He was a thorn in the C's side for a long time.

If Philly had the ability to trade for Kawhi, and if this would have landed Lebron, then yes, it's a big mistake.  I don't care about ages; Lebron + Embiid + Kawhi + perhaps Simmons would make Philly the favorite to reach the Finals for the next 3-4 seasons, and you still have a Embiid / Simmons / Kawhi core after Lebron moves on.  Who wouldn't do that?

But, again, we don't know what was actually possible.
