CLEVELAND -- Kendrick Perkins, who was signed on the final day of the regular season but did not play a single minute in the 2018 postseason, will have his contract option for 2018-19 picked up by the Cavaliers, multiple league sources told ESPN.

As much as the Cavs appreciate Perkins as a locker room presence, the decision is simply a salary-cap ploy in order to try to aggregate the 33-year-old center's $2.5 million salary along with an existing contract in order to pursue a trade around the league.

Big fella’s got to eat. Nice job, Perk.

He was one of the last guys to come directly out of high school, so he was pretty young back then.

I heard they signed him so they can include him in a trade. No further details.

I know this seems like minor news, but I think this is huge. Confirms an earlier report that the cavs are operating as if lebron is leaving

Perkins is going to be help the tanking  effort of the cavs

I heard they were signing him to include in a trade to bring a player in to play with LeBron. That is opposite of what you are saying.

Is there any other player in their 30's that is a worse fit for the modern NBA than Perkins and still has an NBA job?  Perk is an earth-bound, can't switch on PnRs, can't shoot, has no offensive moves outside of a right mini-hook shot, can't pass, can no longer enforce the paint... you get the point.  I realize that he won't be getting playing time, but he's still in t he NBA making 2.5 mil a year.

I can't think of one, although to be honest I didn't try very hard.  I'm happy for Perk though.  I still got love for the entire 2008 crew.

I think we all want to. Abandon our careers just to sit on the bench giving high fives and clapping, collecting $2.5M. Sometimes you get to throw verbal jabs at opposing players on the court from the bench too  8)

Good for perk. I always liked him as a Celtic.

That will give him about $60 million for his career. I am glad for him.
I believe Gandhi is the only person who knew about real democracy — not democracy as the right to go and buy what you want, but democracy as the responsibility to be accountable to everyone around you. Democracy begins with freedom from hunger, freedom from unemployment, freedom from fear, and freedom from hatred.

Hell, I'd gladly do it for just 10% of that amount  :P
