Loyalty in sports and it is both players and management is largely a lost virtue...

We shouldn’t overthink this. If next year goes great and we win the title, how many of you think he’s going to bolt? Heck, even if we get to the finals. Boston obviously will offer him the max, and he seems to have good chemistry with the other players on the team. Why does he leave, as long as the team hits its potential?

This guy talked about being a leader and certainly had the chance to be the leader of a young Celtic team on the rise. One of his opportunities to be a leader he decides to have surgery around game 7 and skips being on the bench. That's not a leader move. And now he is already speaking like he is not sure what he is going to do? If Ainge has any doubt that he is going to bolt and not committ he is getting traded. Perfect place for him to be a leader and have a team that will compete for years and he already sounds non committal. Hopefully we are reading too much into it but it would be nice to hear him say he loves Boston as he at least even said that yet?

Pathetic. Some of you wring your hands with worry over everything. Kyrie could leave.....every nba player has freedom to do that every few years in a league where contracts are generally 4 years or shorter.

But the reality is Boston is a great situation for Kyrie, and players rarely leave great situations.

He didn't really say anything that he shouldn't have. I would stay noncommittal as well and focus on just next year.

There is no loyalty in business. When there is, you usually get f**ked one way or another. Ainge operates like that. Ask IT about how he wanted to be the future of the C's etc. Didn't really work out that well.

If Kyrie really wants to go to the Knicks, maybe Boston is not the best place for him. But I get the sense people are just making a bigger deal of his comments than they should be.

That was a horrid answer for someone that believes he will be here long term.  He should have said something like this.

Obviously I'm a free agent next summer and things can change but I have every intention of signing a new contract in Boston and ending my career as a Celtic.

The fact that he didn't say something like that is absolutely a concern.
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

Starters - Luka, JB, Lebron, Wemby, Shaq
Rotation - D. Daniels, Mitchell, G. Wallace, Melo, Noah
Deep Bench - Korver, Turner

But his answer did fit his personality. We can't read too much into it.

Which is also why no one should be 99% confident that he will re-sign with us.

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
I know Kyrie is flaky, but that reply was so poor that it sounds like he already knows he is being traded (or leaving).

I like Kyrie and am certainly in favor to signing him to a max next offseason, but if Ainge has any doubts about his future, then he should be looking at possible trade options, and good ones, such as: Kawhi, KAT, KP...

If Danny is willing to pay the max, Kyrie stays.  If LeBUM comes to Boston, then its bye bye.

If I thought Kyrie was truly healthy, then I'd pay the max.  I'd say no to LeBUM nomatter what.  I like our team and think LeBUM would ruin it.

There's is definitely something up with this.  Mike Gorman  comes out this week and says he isn't sure Kyrie is here long term. Then Mannix says something similiar.    Then the Lebron rumors.  Gotta hope Danny knows the solution.

For those saying there is nothing to see here, I think you're in complete denial. There is much to see here.

On one hand, we just witnessed our young team compete without him and make it to game 7 of the ECF. One the other hand, we have the player who was absent from this run and is absent of a contract not saying he is definitely signing a contract when asked pointedly about that situation. It's not like there is any variation on what Kyrie will get in FA. It's a max contract, period end of story. So the only thing left is where he'll be.

I actually think this might mean he is feeling a little bit of the cold shoulder and lacks confidence in what the organization is telling him about the future.

Makes me believe there is a 50/50 chance he stays or goes.

I firmly expect Kyrie to go nowhere. Having said that, I love the trade season! :P

So here are 3 trade offers that I would consider fair value for Kyrie.

Kyrie straight up for Kawhi (assuming he is 100% healthy)
(FWIW the Spurs were on Kyrie's list of preferred trade destinations last summer.)

Kyrie + Clips 2019 for KAT + Aldrich + Tyus Jones
(Again, FWIW the Wolves were on Kyrie's list last summer.)

Kyrie for #1 + #16 + Dudley (salary filler)
(The Suns were heavily linked with Kyrie last summer.)

I don't think either of those trades are likely to happen. Quite possibly, they are not even realistic. All I'm saying is, that's what I consider to be fair value for Kyrie.
