I think if they remeasure Tatum they'll find that he is 6-9 or better, and most likely too big to be a shooting guard.
There is not such thing as too big for SG.

You can either guard the position or not. Plenty of players have been able to guard 2s at 6' 10" and taller. Its not like Tatum is going to match up better with Reddick types if he hasn't actually grown any this past year.

Tatum's natural position right now is a 3, but I don't have any problem with him guarding a ton of 2s. JR Smith didn't cause him any problems for example.

There are plenty of big SG’s, so I’m not sure how that could be a criticism. With all the switching I’m not sure how much it would matter

Yeah it was a much bigger issue back when teams refused to switch and you had to fight over every screen.

Now if it looks like Klay/Reddick/Kyrie is going to get wide open on a off ball action C's call for the switch even off ball most of the time.

I like the idea.

Let Baynes continue to start and begin the games with our most defensively capable lineup. Give Horford some help on the boards and on interior defense. Keep Jaylen as a starter because he is the best wing defender on the team.

Let Tatum come off the bench and then finish strong with a small lineup.

This did not even happen Tatum's rookie year, he started game one folks.   He had a stellar year and a great playoffs and you guys think he is going to the bench?

What a way to reward his effort, this past year.   Your going to be our sixth man, CBS isn't going to do this to him.   It is not 1965 where you could  tell a guy to do it for the good of the team.   TATUM is STARTING.

Agreed.  TP given.  Jayson Tatum is a future superstar in the NBA.  You put guys like Marcus Smart, Rozier, or Morris as your 6th man, not Jayson Tatum.  I think Brad is smart enough to design rotations where Tatum will see the end of the 2nd/4th quarters even though he is in the starting lineup to begin the game.  Just a hunch, Brad is a pretty smart dude.

People here love to try to think 'outside the box'.  But sometimes conventional thinking is ok.  This kid scored the 2nd most rookie playoff points of all time.  You want to continue to build his confidence as very soon he will be the centerpiece of this Celtics team.  I don't see any reason not to start Jayson Tatum with his current trajectory.

PS It's not even 'for the good of the team' imo.  It would just be a bad use of talent not to have him out there on the floor as much as humanly possible.
