The Celtics season was a 10/10 success. Nobody thought that they would be anywhere close to game 7 of the ECF once Hayward went down. The Celtics had a great regular season, then we found out that Kyrie was out for the year. At this juncture, many thought that we couldn't get past Milwaukee. They did. Not only did they beat the Bucks, they beat the Sixers in a series that they were not favored. They didn't just squeak by Philly- they beat the crap out of them in 5 games. Then they were an underdog vs Cleveland. After a great series without their two best players, the Celtics had a bad game. One bad game.

Why have I been reading and listening to grown men acting like spoiled kids since last night?

Why is it crazy to think that this season was a smashing success?

Shane Larkin was the key....he would have given TRoz rest and his legs.

Because they choked. Hard.  Absolutely crapped their shorts. 2nd worst true fg percentage of all season or something.  There is no silver lining today.

I hope it will come back. Probably just too soon after such a disappointing loss. I think most of us were already thinking about he Finals, figuring Cleveland could not beat us in Boston. And yeah, the game was right there for the taking with even an ordinary performance from one of Brown or Rozier.

This is the part I don't get. Were people thinking 1) the Celtics win game 7 (despite evidence that Lebron wins these games), 2) HOU (without Chris Paul) would beat GS tonight, and 3) BOS would beat HOU?

If so, this seems like a string of conditions that were not likely to yield good results for the Celtics.

nobody is denying it was a great year.

you are missing the whole point so i will repeat this one last time

if we had lost to philly or cavs in 4 it would not hurt as bad. why? because we stomped the cavs in our three home wins proving we could beat them and beat them handily and we were the better team. we completely crapped the bed ona  tsunami like level last night. it was disgusting because the cvavs are crap. we had lebron beat. to be this close with this team they deserved the east title. they pizzed it away when lebron did not deserve it. thats why. it was a level of stupid coaching and play unprecedented. we desperately need coaches who demand players do things right or players have a BBIQ greater than a fence post. now i like stevens but man when he makes a mess it is diarrhea all over the place. that was last night in a nutshell. he needs to be more demanding when players are playing stupid. oh so they partially  took away our postups and some drives because we sucked shooting from oitside? heck then send all 5 into the paint to draw fouls and get boards. we were in the bonus. going inside somehow some way was our only hope.  we gave up once they collapsed a few to stop what i said above and died chucking threes
LET'S GO CELTICS!

Probably because it was such a terrible way to end the season. A mega choke against LeBron
'23 Historical Draft: Orlando Magic.

PG: Terry Porter (90-91) / Steve Francis (00-01)
SG: Joe Dumars (92-93) / Jeff Hornacek (91-92) / Jerry Stackhouse (00-01)
SF: Brandon Roy (08-09) / Walter Davis (78-79)
PF: Terry Cummings (84-85) / Paul Millsap (15-16)
C: Chris Webber (00-01) / Ralph Sampson (83-84) / Andrew Bogut (09-10)

As to what would happen in the Finals I’d already started to wonder. I was expecting a loss, but who knew?

As to beating the Cavs - I think that was the more likely outcome, given the path of the series. LeBron played very well, but he did not beat us last night. Even an ordinary performance from one of Terry or Jaylen and we win. We simply missed a *ton* of open 3s - something we did not do in other high pressure games. Why it hit them now is hard to say. Apparently this stage was big enough to spook them. LBJ is great, and was great this series. Obviously the Cavs don’t win it without him. At the same time, we gave them that game. It stings.

Speaking of diarrhea, I found it a challenge to pull a cohesive point out of your post.

The Celtics deserved to win? Huh? They lost more games than they won in the series. So no, they didn't deserve to win.

"we desperately need coaches who demand players do things right or players have a BBIQ greater than a fence post." Huh? Our two craftiest, smart players could not play. We were competing with 3 starters and reserves. Brad played 7 guys last night. Two of them may not have played if Hayward/Irving were healthy.

"if we had lost to philly or cavs in 4 it would not hurt as bad." Really? It was worse to win those series than lose them?

I'm not one for "Just happy to be here"....You don't know how any year will turn out--you gotta do what you can to Win now.

Sure, they over achieved all year. Last night was just a terrible strategy-When we could have run that old team into dust, Instead, we walked the ball up ALL GAME- letting them set up their defense til we had to chuck up bad shots.

Well, they had four bad games, actually, with the last one being a complete abomination and total choke job.

I admit that I thought this team was cooked after Hayward went down—I was wrong. I also admit that I thought they were cooked when Kyrie went down—again, I was wrong, and I have no problem admitting that.

People on your side of this debate are saying that we should be happy that this team made it so far after so many obstacles, to which I say two things: 1) As far as I know, none of us on this side of this debate is saying it was a crappy season, and 2) the fact that this team overcame so much—namely key injuries and youthful inexperience—is in fact proof that they SHOULD have won this series. People like you are saying, "We couldn't have justifiably expected more!" And people like me are saying, "Yes we could have!" Because they showed, by overcoming so much, that they legitimately belonged, and were no longer just some cute Cinderella story.

They belong, and they should be in the Finals right now—not could be, should be. These guys are still growing and developing, but they grew and developed enough this season that they should not be sitting at home right now. And if my expectations are high, maybe it's because they showed me that I should have high expectations, that they were worthy of those high expectations. And the one guy who really showed up last night—Tatum—was the youngest and most inexperienced of the bunch. What was everyone else's excuse?
There are two kinds of people: those who say to God, 'Thy will be done,' and those to whom God says, 'All right, then, have it your way.'

You don't have a soul. You are a Soul. You have a body.

I get it. They played the worst basketball game that has ever been played, including pickup games at the local elementary school during recess.

My only point is- why focus on one terrible game 7 vs the 100 other basketball games? The Celtics have a crazy bright future.

Almost like going on a date with a smoking hot woman while focusing solely on the pimple on her chin.
