All-Defensive Teams Announced - Horford 2nd Team

Most on this board think Smart is 1st team All-Defense and yet he just is never looked at that way nationally. Homerism?

If he isn't looked at as All-Defense across the league and is an atrocious offensive player, do the Celtics really have a problem in retaining him for cheap?

Smart's been all-defense before. I look at him as similar to Roberson and Beverly who have also been all-defense, are similarly recognized as superior defenders, are offensively challenged, and, according to Roberson's contract signed last summer, are worth about $10MM per year. Smart makes more highlight reel plays than the other two, but he also makes more bonehead plays too.

Al Horford quarterbacks the best defense in the league, but only makes it onto the 2nd team.

Smart and Brown both received 1st Team All-Defense votes, but neither of them made it. Thought both were more deserving than Murray or Butler on a 12th ranked Spurs/TWolves defense.

Amazingly, Baynes didn't even get a single vote.

Disagree regarding Butler. He pretty is Minnesota's defense. He's more crucial to them on that end than I think Brown and Smart are here.

I screwed up. I thought he had made it one year for some reason. He has consistently received votes, however.

Both Roberson and Beverly did make it as I had noted and I think the point about his next contract's size is still valid.

I'm glad Smart did get much recognition and like when Mark Jackson bashes him.  I want him back for as little as possible.  I'm hoping for ten million per year and hopefully even less.  Glue/energy guys with poor stats don't usually get paid.

And me. He gets a lot of deflections, but he also was exposed a bit in our series against him. He is not a complete player. Would be surprised if he makes another all-defensive team in his career

I am pretty sure he is referring to respecting the Celtics in regards to these awards. As far as I can see only 1 player on the 2nd team has won a title so the respect he is referring to has nothing to do with winning a title.

Yeah the Covington love seems suspect. He got dominated on the defensive end that series and if you can't defend in big games I don't think you belong on first team all defense.

I get kind of annoyed when I see the Sixers have two first team all defensive players yet Boston has none, by that alone you would think that they had the better defense.

The Sixers only have 1 player (Covington) on the 1st team and he would have been 2nd team if Kawhi had been healthy.

Here's hoping that he can anchor our defense for another 9 or 10 games THIS season and for the next 5 years or more.

Baynes won't get any votes and at his position which is "sexy" with Golbert, Davis, Embid, Green, Dejordan (am i forgetting anyone?) but man is he a cog, so important in a good(great) team defense with straight up rim protection.
Brown due to age didn't get proper notice.  Smart is one of the top man on wing defenders in nba but as a sub maybe he won't get proper recognition.  I am impressed Horford made it as I don't think he gets credit for his all around game.  The other big fundamental

He also missed a ton of games this year. It's hard to make a defensive team when you play less than 60 games (and Smart only played 54).

I think the same thing prevented Bradley from making it last year (when he only played 55)
