While we throw around the word "genius" to describe people who technically aren't, it's obvious to me that Brad Stevens is on the far right end of the IQ scale. I'm confident he's 160+. The way he talks, the way he conducts himself, and his precise methodology are all obvious signs that Earth is just too easy for him. While the other teams have coaches who know a lot about basketball, we have a coach who knows a lot about everything, and that includes how to get the best out of the people that you work with.

I think his temperament is important as well. No matter how tight the game is, he appears unflappable. Even when he's angry about a bad call, he is in complete control. The moment is never too big for him. That affects the players, they sense that confidence, and trust that he knows how to put them in the best position to win.

It notes the quality of his teams as "composure and attention to detail."

Sound familiar?

Also: this makes Danny Ainge look pretty smart too.

Interesting how any player that arrives in Boston leaves the same place as a far better player and as soon as he starts with the new team, that same player just disappears. Remember Bradley, Crowder, IT4, Olynyk, Amir J. They were all better players when wearin green. That's just who Brad Stevens is. Everybody say he's next Gregg P. I say even better than Pop. One day.

I think he is very bright and intelligent coach, who knows how to get the most out of his players    (Unless your nickname happen to be Moose), who treats his players with respect and never loses his calm and always steadys the ship.

That article doesn't prove Stevens is genius, but it does prove Buzz Williams is a prophet.

It's not really possible to measure beyond a global IQ of 140 due to lack of norms and ceiling effects.  But point taken, dude is smart.

I don't agree.

Crowder has been playing well for the Jazz and I think that Bradley managed to maintain his level of play this season (at least with the Pistons).

It's not fair to make a judgment on Isaiah based on how he performed this season. He was out half of the season with a hip injury and he never really managed to hit his top level of play when he returned. A factor has also been his playing time this season. Last season he averaged 34 minutes compared to 27.1 with the Cavs and 26.8 with the Lakers.

Olynyk's stats indicate that he has been playing better this season compared to last season. I managed to watch some of Heat's games this season and I personally think that Kelly has neither improved nor taken a step back in terms of level of play compared to last season - he is still a very inconsistent player.

Amir Johnson was horrible during his last season in Boston. You could clearly see that his age didn't do him justice and therefore it's no wonder that he hasn't been playing well for Philly this season.

Are you qualified to assess that?  Are you say a psychologist or the like?  Or just a guy on a blog?

Stevens is a great coach, there is no doubt about that, but the narrative that every player that comes here improves until they leave is a bit stretched.  Some examples were mentioned above but one current one is Greg Monroe.  Stevens hasn't figure him out, that is for sure.  That does not mean Stevens isn't a good coach, just a reminder that he is human.

This run is going to generate a lot of well deserved hype for Stevens (and others) but it will end up getting overblown.  That is just the nature of things.  There will be so much talk about how under the radar he is that he no longer will be under the radar.  Rozier and to some extent Brown and Tatum are getting overblown as well.  Funny that Horford does not seem to be getting the same level of hype.

He's a great coach. Everyone acknowledges that.

This "genius" discussion is a bit silly IMO.
