Usually in the playoffs the rotation tightens up. A series usually comes down to the top 8 guys in the rotation producing. Who do you have as our top 8?

My playoff top 8 would be

Irving, Brown, Tatum, Morris, Horford
Rozier, Smart, Theis.

I think Brad will go 9 at least, with Monroe.

Moose needs to be set loose.

In terms of MPG you are probably right but I wouldn't be surprised to see Brad use a deep rotation in the playoffs.  You would assume Kyrie and Horford will see a 4+ MPG increase in every close game.  Smart will also be locked into 30 MPG.  The rest of the roster could see a fluctuation based upon performance.  Some nights Morris will eat into Tatum's minutes.  Monroe also has an opportunity to steal significant minutes when he is on a roll.

The truth is that every one of our rotation players brings different strengths to the table.  We are also too flawed for Brad to not roll with the best lineup on any given night.

I get playing the hot hand or spot minutes for otger guys based on fouls and such but I'm asking top 8 minutes wise. Who would people want to get those minutes.

I also see Larkin getting some minutes in the playoffs. Brad uses him well to change the pace in short minutes.

I'm in agreement with you on MPG to start the playoffs.  My only point is our youth could really switch things up for Brad as we go.

Do you really think Baynes is just going to be dropped from the rotation?

Baynes has started 51 games this season, and 22 of the last 25.  I see very little evidence that indicates Stevens will just drop him from the rotation all of a sudden.

Monroe will most assuredly figure in there somewhere as well.  If I had to take a guess, Theis is probably going to be on the outside looking in, in terms of a spot in the rotation.  Some night he might get a chance if Baynes or Monroe don't seem to have it, but otherwise I would expect him to play very little.

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
I personally prefer Theis over Baynes/Monroe, but have a feeling Brad doesn't feel the same way. Baynes will surely start every game and most every 2nd half.

I see the top 8 in the rotation (in order of MPG) as:
1)Kyrie
2)Al
3)Jaylen
4)Smart
5)Tatum
6)Morris
7)Rozier
8)Baynes

Monroe is likely 9th with Theis and Larkin bringing up the rear. Because there is a lack of bigs in that top 8, Theis and especially Monroe will see time, but I don't anticipate either of them will be in the top in mpg.

Kyrie 35 / Rozier 13
Brown 32 / Smart 16
Tatum 32 / Smart 16
Horford 12/ Morris 26 / Theis 10
Baynes 14 / Monroe 16 / Horford 18

Semi/Larkin out or injury insurance.

.....Until late May when Hayward comes back and takes ~15 minutes from Theis/Morris.
Philly:

Anderson Varejao    Tiago Splitter    Matt Bonner
David West    Kenyon Martin    Brad Miller
Andre Iguodala    Josh Childress    Marquis Daniels
Dwyane Wade    Leandro Barbosa
Kirk Hinrich    Toney Douglas   + the legendary Kevin McHale

TP. You did an excellent job with this.  I might give Baynes a tad more. It's hard for me to imagine Smart getting as many minutes as starters. But very good.

It's top 8 in mins not that guys won't play besides them. Playoffs require more versatile players. It's like when BS went to Jerekbo. Theis brings me than Monroe and Baynes.

TP for saving me the time to have to type just this.

I don't believe we're going to see much different rotations come playoff time. I expect what we see is what we get come round 1 and I'm ok with that.
ok fine

It's going to be real tough. Those who play will get minutes for a particular reason. My gut says, outside the core 4 starters plus Smart and Rozier, it may come down to defensive matchups if Brad wants to try different looks on people (Semi, Australia, and possibly Theis gets minutes this way), but the last 2 of the top 8 go to those who can score: Morris and Monroe, M&M. That's some offensive punch.  Semi, Theis, and Baynes can eat some minutes if needed, but they're the ones getting situational minutes.

I think 9 guys will play consistent minutes in every game they are healthy. Irving, Brown, Tatum, Horford, Baynes, Morris, Monroe, Smart, and Rozier.  So that is what is call the rotation.  I expect Theis, Larkin, and Semi to play in most games but not consistently.
