Just get yourself banned from the Current Events forum and you won't even see the posts at all anymore. 

I find that my enjoyment of the site has improved considerably since I stopped reading, let alone attempting to participate in, the political conversations in the CE forum.  I think a person would be better off seeking entertainment in the act of aggressively slamming their forehead into a brick wall.

I feel like way less of a failure to know that you've also been ban-branded.

If there are any other NGT's out there looking for friends -- and perhaps more importantly, looking to find 'self' again -- please PM me!

This is only 20% sarcasm, 80% shame.

I agree with the OP. These forums shouldn't be rigidly Celtics-focused -- I enjoy that yardwork/homeowners thread from time to time, for instance -- but lately I see a lot of pointless political bickering that accomplishes nothing. Mostly those posts seem like a platform for people to sound off with their pre-existing views, not anything productive or even entertaining to read.

There was a day where there were more political threads than NBA available for comment.

I am sure everyone here has their own reasons for coming to the forum.

I come here to escape, Trump, guns and all of the "triggers" used by the media to get an emotional rise out of me.

My sports team doesn't talk about all of the horrors being circulated daily, they talk about the passion of, for us, rebuilding and climbing the mountain back to a title and all that entails. These players, our heroes, are not viewed in the political lens. They take us away from it and give us hope for another basketball victory.

Meanwhile, the news just wants to engulf me in despair as that is what they are paid to do.

BTW. I am old, so I can tell you this about the "news". In 1972, they were saying that era's version of all the world ending crap that is on today and none of it came true.

Fascinating take, OP. The basics are pretty consistent on any platform -- if you don't want to read about it, don't click on it. You're not being assailed by pop-up political ads.
