Jaylen Brown's Recent Growth

is it me, or do Jaylens free throws look much better lately? he seems to be hitting them at a good clip. and because he has been it seems he has been much more aggressive at getting to the basket without fear of missing free throws.

He's learning to regulate his speed better. Against the Hawks he had a nice coast-to-coast play where he basically jogged up until he got almost to the 3-point line and then turned on the jets. Last year (and even the beginning of this year) I think he would've tried to outrun everyone to the basket, causing the defense to collapse on him early and then try an impossible shot. He's learning how to work smarter, which is great.

The better he gets at reading defenses, the more effective he'll be. We're already seeing it this season. Hopefully it continues.

Agree. I think he is just starting out how to use his good edge in athleticism to his advantage.  He should study Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant tapes. The kid has that kind of athleticism.

That's a good call because Kobe and MJ had great footwork for wings. With Jaylen's size and quickness, he could be a monster in the post against either smaller guys or bigger, slower guys.

just found this article. seems like he altered his routine abit which is leading to the improved percentage. seems alot of it was mental.

Last year at this time Brown showed some defensive potential, an average 3 point shot, a loose handle, poor court awareness and nothing but a straight line drive to the basket.

This year he has become an excellent defender, he is shooting 3s at an above average pace, he has tightened up his handle immensely, he has shown twisting moves, eurosteps, better court awareness. He is finishing better at the rim. He is making the right pass for open shots if his drive is stopped or he is double teamed. He has added a catch and shoot shot, a fall back mid range shot, and good work in the pick and roll.

And he's been shooting his free throws at 71.2% over the last two months after a horrible start. Sky is the limit to how much he can grow next year

Co-sign. If he can learn to create his own shot, he'll be a bona fide superstar someday

Fans from opposing teams say that the difference between his year 1 and year 2 is confidence and aggressiveness (they use this to talk about their own prospects). While they are right, I believe his confidence and aggressiveness  comes from the fact that he worked on aspects of his game this summer. Parts of his game has grown, that's why he has more confidence and aggressive in his moves.

I think Jaylen will work on his weaknesses.   That is a rare player who does so, and wants to the best.   The future is bright for him!

This kind of apparent improvement from year 1 to year 2 is a good indicator of continued improvement. The same kind of trajectory from Tatum would be huge.

I'm not sure where the Jeff Green comparison came from. Jaylen is an intense player. Jeff Green is not.

It's a lazy comparison based on stats for the first two years. The difference is we know what JG is, we are just beginning to discover Jaylen Brown.

I said it a week before he got drafted, and I'll say it now, with more confidence, Jaylen Brown's ceiling is Kawhi Leonard.  I think he very well could be the best two way wing in the league in a few years.
