He has never been known for physicality like this...I don't recall him with such a reputation.

I'd be interested to know if anything lead up to confrontation.

I don't know how many players keep their composure as it is. I get hit/elbowed in the head occasionally in my over the hill league and want to go nuts (I don't). I think it is a natural reaction to punch when hit in the head. This is definitely an emotional reaction, and logic has little to do with it.
The only real mistake is the one from which we learn nothing.
