2018 draft, loaded with bigs, got me to thinking: What is the future center for our team look like? The guy who will replace Al Horford in 2-3 years.

Is he going to be like Al, a guy who can serve as a play maker from the top of the key, switch between power forward and center, hit 3's?  If so, who coming out fits this profile? Porter? Bagley? Anthony Davis?

Are we looking for a defensive specialist, shot blocker, rebounder, who can handle guys like GF, Embiid, Towns, Porzingis?  Someone like Bamba?  Ayton?

Or are we looking for a smaller, more versatile center in the model of Green for the Warriors?  Who fits that model? Do we still have hope that Yabusele can fulfill that role in 2-3 years?  Someone else?

I could see our team going in any number of directions here, and a lot will depend on opportunity.

What do you think?

Preferably wide shoulders to carry the expectations of our franchise.

My primary thought is that Horford has 5 years left as the top big on a team before he needs replacing than 2-3.  The follow up to that thought is that accordingly, there’s no reason that player, should he be found internally or through the draft process, needs to be already in the league or in this upcoming draft.

That's my dream right now. Give him 2 years off the bench shadowing one of the smartest centers in the league and then he takes over the top job when Horford's contract is up and he starts to show signs of age/the team will need some salary relief.

I saw him in person a week ago. He is also my dream for the Celtics.

Cloning Myles Turner.

He still is very young but Turner is averaging less points, rebounds, shooting worse and averaging more turnovers than last year. I was hoping to see more improvement from him this year as a prospect.

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
Tatum is still growing isn't he?  ;)

It also frees up a spot for Porter when we are lucky enough to draft him in this upcoming draft.

DeAndre Ayton would be pretty sweet.

Or pray that Tatum grows to 7'0" tall, draft Doncic or Porter and have the most unguardable lineup of all time.
'23 Historical Draft: Orlando Magic.

Ayton is starting to look like a generational talent, but since he's the favorite for #1, its hard to see a path to getting him.

I posted on another thread that I like Wendell Carter. I could see him operating more like Al Horford than anyone else available. Since he's on Duke and they have Bagley and several other bigs, he's flying a bit under the radar, but he's posting impressive numbers in less than 25 minutes a game.

Our pick if we get it is 2-5.  Ayton would be ideal but settling for bagley or bamba instead isn't bad either!    Porter probably drops outside top 5 because injuries.   Carter is also outside top 5.  Just draft the best talented big available -- probably bagley.   Now if we trade the pick for Anthony Davis I wouldn't be mad either!
