Mixed feelings on this one. I get not playing the video because this is a televised game and the camera’s will be on I.T even more then they would’ve been because of the tribute video. And I know the camera will be on him a great deal with or without it for this game.

PP34 won’t be on TV as much because he’s retirement will be off camera.

For me it feels like the Celtics shouldn’t do the video for I.T but if they do Paul really shouldn’t talk about it because it makes him look like a punk.

I personally thought the the Celtics should've done a Pierce night like they did for Bird's retirement that didn't even have a game going with it. I'm sure they could sell out the Garden just like Bird did.

IT had a night and refused his video tribute. Why would it get moved to a different night? Just scrap the video entirely. That was his day, and he didn't want it. Celtics don't have to keep accommodating him.

IT simply MUST be the center of attention because he has a burning psychic need to be recognized.  This is at the heart of everything he has done vis-a-vis the Celtics since the trade, such as the incessant potshots at Ainge and the organization and now this ridiculous refusal to accept a scheduled video tribute in Boston.  The chip on this child's shoulder is bigger than the person on which it rests, and that is a very sad sight to see.

At my sister's wedding it was also a couple of days from my father's 50th birthday.  We sang him a happy birthday and acknowledged the occasion, but it didn't detract any from the main event.

It's all love.

These situations are not the same.

Well derrr, of course they're not the same.  Otherwise Paul Pierce would be my sister and IT would be my father.  That would mean I'm older than my father.  I think it would also mean Danny Ainge is my mother.  Or perhaps Wyc Grousbeck?  I was never very good with those alternate time scheme scenarios.

Now Darko Milicic as my brother is something I could get down with.
Yup

Pierce is not Thomas' family, and has no reason to want to be there to watch Isaiah's tribute

So much for “Boston is a brotherhood” and “Once a Celtic always a Celtic”, huh?

Bob Cousy shared his jersey retirement with former Celtic Ed Macauley, who had his jersey retired at the same time. Tommy and Bill Sharman shared a ceremony, too. Now Pierce can’t even share three minutes?

It’s amazingly insecure. Will Pierce also complain about his eventual HOF enshrinement because he’ll have to share the spotlight with other players?

If I remember correctly they're doing Pierce's whole shebang AFTER the game anyhow, right?

Yup

Yes.

Isn't that special enough?

Maybe have Lebron come out wearing a Celtics warmup like Magic did for Larry.

I'm disappointed that you are equating IT's tenure with the Celts with those of Cousy, Easy Ed, Tommy Gun and Sharman.  Leave it to a criminal defense attorney to float such a comparison!

I have no problem with this. Thomas needs a bit of his own medicine here.

Ah R-E-S-P-E-C-T.

When IT neglected to have his video shown-on a scheduled night. Despite the fact that the date was set 6 months plus in advance-plenty of time to have family on hand. Playing or not.
Danny respected this.

Why not respect Paul Pierce's retirement ceremony date. Seriously.
Reschedule.

Respect IT's wishes to delay.
Respect Paul Pierce's Day.
Give them some respect.

Or are we all going to celebrate your  birthday on ours because you don't want to open your presents.

As I recall, John Havlicek got a whole weekend!

Anyone saw Nick Wright dissing Paul Pierce?

"Pierce averaged 25, 6 and 3 and played 82 games the year after he got stabbed 11 times.

'The best season Paul Pierce ever had in Boston was not as good as the season Isaiah Thomas just had.'

@getnickwright reacts to Paul Pierce not wanting IT's tribute on the same night as his jersey retirement"

Im pretty sure there’s a big difference between those names and IT. Don’t get me wrong, I loved IT here and he put together a truly special season for us. But he never played with Pierce.

Ed and Bob, and Tommy and Bill were teammates for many years.

I’m sure if they asked Paul in the off-season to have his number retired with KG would not be a problem. To spring it on him a month before his ceremony that someone else wants to be honored on his night, I see where Pierce is coming from. That is most certainly his day. I don’t like that they planned it on such a high-profile game to begin with, but maybe they wanted LeBron there?

I think IT should take it to Twitter/Insta and say that day belongs to Pierce, honor me when we meet again, in May.

IT and/or the Celtics should take note that Pierce doesn’t want it and reschedule. I find it weird they didn’t play it when he came out and sat on the bench. IT was fine making an entrance for an ovation but wants his family there for a video? He should have stayed away from the fans view if that was the case.

IT may very well be a Celtic legend because of his historic season and emotional personality that resonated with us.

But Pierce is Celtic royalty.

No one cares what that annoying cretin looking like with a witches nose has to say about Pierce. Pierce like KG were a dying breed in the Celtics dynasty. IT could've and should've been but sometimes life doesn't work like that.

But even IT should give Pierce the common courtesy to bow and back away from his day.

Macauley and Cousy played one season together.  There was no real reason for them to share a ceremony, but neither as far as I can tell complained.

It’s amazing to me that Pierce can’t give up 3 minutes of the spotlight. It’s very anti-Ubuntu and contrary to “Celtics Pride”.  I expected more from him.

Is he going to pout if Tatum hits a buzzer beater, especially if they show it on the Jumbotron? It’s all about Pierce, after all.
