All that Marcus Smart needs to improve significantly overnight is a Head Coach with enough balls to tell him to stop shooting so much !!! It's not that complicated.
The Four Celtic Generals:
Russell - Cowens - Bird - Garnett

The Four Celtic Lieutenants:
Cousy - Havlicek - McHale - Pierce

LoL. I don't have a problem with him taking good shots, he seems to do "ok" with those but WAY to many bad shots. The other problem is he can't figure out when he's 1 for 9 to stop shooting, shooters shoot, bad shooters don't!

I know people love his defense but I see him make a LOT of bad fouls. Aggressive defense is great, hacking people or running into jump shooters is not.

Basically I've come to this conclusion. People that love Smart like college basketball games that are 55-58. I watch the pros cause I want to see high level talent see people do things I can't. Watching Smart is like watching a bad high school game!

your right about liking 55-58 college games .  I watch UVA some and i love the defense intensity  . I deplore Lakers showtime basketball.  Or the make it up,as you go Lebron , no coach basketball.   I like intense team effort on both ends.

I'm a Smart hater and still am!

I think you guys are giving him way to much credit for those last 2 calls and instead should be giving it to the ref who finally had the courage to make the right calls against a guy that pushes off on every play!

I'll keep saying it Smart is a decent role player when he plays within his abilities. Unfortunately WAY to often he tries to play above his abilities which always hurts the team.

Traded at the trade deadline if anyone will pony up something of value for him.

Nonsense.  They teach all basketball players at the lowest levels on the need to sell offensive fouls.  How many charges are called when a defender stays standing?  Zero.

That is all defensive positioning, instinct, and his ability to foul/annoy people to the point that they elbow him to the ground.

No it's not. Watch next game Smart aka Stupid will foul a 3 point shooter at the end of the game and we will lose because of it. If you go back and watch all the games this year I bet you will easily see for every great play Stupid makes he makes a horrible one. Even worse what I have noticed is he compounds his Stupid plays. Meaning he will come down on the offensive end make a horrible turnover, realizing he screwed up he will race down and foul a jump shooter. Turning 30 seconds into a 4 point swing for the other team. He does this constantly, constantly!!!!
Calling Celtics such derogatory names is clear baiting. Do not continue this.

You guys are way to PC on this site it drives me crazy and it has destroyed most blogs. If you want this blog to fail keep up the PC crap I can assure you all you will have is a bunch of care bears on here. By bunch I mean 10 and there will be nobody else. I've been a member for many years and it's extremely disappointing to see you guys trend this way over the years!
hi dreamgreen. actually, this blog has been pretty consistent over the years, and i have been here even before the big big server shift in 2006. (yes, i do spend an excessive amount of my time here.) i dont see what you are referring to in your post.

civility is not the same being pc. cb has always been a civil place, populated by mods who do a pretty good job over all...though jeff should give them raises.  ;D

there are folks who have been around a lot for a long time, such as me. but i also see new names and posters popping up often. some stay. some don't.

for me, this place is civil and allows a good level of debate, but always polices abuse. i like that. i want posters here to provide thoughtful, humorous, and well researched posts. it makes reading here a whole lot better.

that is why i called out your lack of evidence and proof earlier. up your posting game and do better please. we would all benefit from that.

in contrast, i also post in SoSH, where i am a member. and there, it is not so nice and i have witnessed some really brutal take downs and pile ons there. there are zero language filters there. but SoSHers do this with a purpose. they wish to weed out weak posters, people who make assertions without the homework and research. quality of post trumps all there...that and talking about drinking.  ::)

they are good at keeping the quality of posts very high. but it is not nearly as welcoming as here. SoSH is anything and everything but pc.

so, go give SoSH a try. see how it goes for you.

Hi hwangjini, I had to think about it for a while to figure out how long I've been here. I too have been here before the big server shift (I couldn't get back on for over a year after that Jeff had to help me). I remember arguing with people saying they believed Ray Allen and Ginobili were better that PP. It was a very long battle on here lol. Hopefully history has proven I'm right lol.

Anyway lot of good people on here and the MODs do a good job. I personally like more heated debates and some jawing back and forth. Where I tend to get in trouble is I use harsh truth in my arguments any many people don't like that, like they say the "Truth" hurts hahaha.

People that don't want to see Smart's negatives are just being bias and are not honest about the debate. The fact that I have to come up with cited moments these things happen is puzzling to me. The easy argument is just watch the games and take your Marcus Smart glasses off but if you want me to document a game putting in all his bad plays I will do that in the future. Hell I'll even document his good plays being non biased about the study. Of course this will set a fire under the Smart lovers rear ends but that's ok I love that!

So as I've said earlier in this thread on a national game when I can pause it and take notes I will do so and we can all battle about this again! ;D

I feel very confident that Smart does a dozen things every night that you could not do in an NBA game.

I'd be surprised if NBA players allowed you to have a peaceful shot. Anyways, you expect everyone on the team to give you 20 points a game. Not going to happen. This is why you have 5 guys playing at once. Everyone has their roll, and sometimes that roll is to stop players, do scrappy things. Do you think Kyrie can do what Smart does? Nope, and vice versa.

No, no you can't. Unless you are/were a D1 athlete that we know about. You wouldn't have time to get your shot off.

The actual valid criticism that I see relates to his shooting. He is not efficient and misses too much. The problem I see is that I believe Danny/Brad like Smart and want him to be part of the future. If this is true, they want him to improve at shooting. How do you improve in-game shots if you are afraid to take shots?

If Marcus stops shooting, he will become Tony Allen as he enters into his prime. I think Danny/Brad have higher hopes for him.

They wouldn't defend me. I'd get more wide open looks than him and I'd hit more and I'd do it for a fraction of the cost. And I'd look prettier doing it too.

Well I'm 45 5'9" 160 lbs. so he's got a lot of advantages over me to say the least. At the Y I was a walking triple double though.  ;D

I'm a better shooter and passer than him and I'm willing to bet I have faster hands than him and I'm smarter than he is! But yes he would kill me on the court.

But I'll bet my life I'm a better skier than he is hahaha.

I'm betting he's gone. They already couldn't come to an agreement and no way Danny overpays for a defensive guard. That would be a huge mistake in that league. He could be gone at the trade deadline, I'd actually bet on that.
