Clearly some people don’t know basketball. Teams rarely, if ever, double perimeter players in the nba. It’s almost impossible to do without getting burned over and over.
Except teams did it with Isaiah the 2nd half of last season and it led to a lot of struggles and tough small-margin losses.
Difference is, the C's have more scoring threats this year unlike last year, and they need to get them the ball more if Kyrie is contained, and give them the ball early in the shot clock too (otherwise it could be a wasted possession in a tough, close game).
Well, they did it against a C's team that had a LOT worse shooting surrounding Thomas than this current team has around Kyrie. And they did it a lot against lineups that had Smart at the 3 and basically ignored on the perimeter, freeing up a defender to help on Thomas. All they had to do typically was play Al, Jae & Avery straight up and cheat Smart's defender onto Thomas to accomplish the double. Despite that, overall for the season, doubling Thomas only paid off once in a while. If his teammates made shots, it didn't pay off.
The problem we have right now isn't shooters -- we have some really good shooters, especially in the starting & closing lineups. The problem is we aren't really doing a very good job of passing the ball with purpose and creating shots for more of our shooters. Last year, we were 2nd in the NBA in assists per 100 possessions. This year we are 13th. We've also had corresponding drops in rank for our team scoring efficiency.
