F the NCAA. Anything that stops that organization from farming these kids is fine by me.
how dare the NCAA give full ride scholarships along with free room/board as well as free books All for being able to bounce a ball and jump higher than me
Why are you trivializing the dedication and commitment it takes to play NBA basketball? I feel like people constantly underestimate what it means to be able to "bounce a ball and jump higher". To be able to keep yourself in shape, keep on top of your diet, to handle the busy flying schedules, all the mandated hours of community service, intense practices, and being able to play 40+ minutes on any given night if the coach calls for it, even through injury in certain situations. I don't think that's something to trivialize.
NCAA isn't payin anybody's bills. Scholarships along with free room and board aren't bringing these players' mothers or siblings or friends out of poverty. Just give them a fast track from high school to the NBA. Forget holding them back 1 more year just to line the pockets of these colleges.
What?
College is certainly not the end all be all, but to say that a full ride scholarship doesn't provide a person the opportunity to better themselves financially seems wild to me.
It isn't the schools fault if the players don't take advantage of what is offered.
For 1 year? No it doesn't do any of that at all.
Well, it is not like they don't have the option to continue school instead of going to the draft (though clearly for highly ranked prospects that would be stupid.)
There are a lot more players than just stars in the NCAA that are on scholarships, so to act like kids gain nothing from the transaction, I disagree with.
If they would rather play over seas or in the g league or even in the lavar league, more power to them.
But, should they choose, those scholarships can be immensely valuable, and can indeed help them and their families in terms of wealth.
