I really wanted AD but now that I've seen Brown improvements and Tatum fit in, I'm not so sure. AD stays injured a lot. Horford fits in well but his intangibles aren't enough to say NO on AD.

I wouldn't trade Tatum under any circumstances. I would include Brown.

Horford, Brown, Smart and 2 #1s would be all I would give up. However, I would want AD AND EMoore. I liked him when he was with the Celtics before.

Irving\Rozier
Moore
Hayward
Tatum\Morris
AD

Way way too much. Brown, Smart + Lakers pick. Not a cent more.

The problem with trading Brown and Smart this year it really hurts the back court. No Starting guard next to Irving. And really hurts the flexibility that Brown and Smart bring to the defense and guarding multiple positions.

And right now matching salaries is hard. Horford, Brown you have to take contracts back. Add Smart to that its even more. And NO has nothing of value after AD and Cousins. Trying to make a deal with out Horford guts the team hard. And we lose bench help. So Horford has to go no matter what, and I'm not sure thats going to look great. But I don't think DA really cares about that.

Third team may have to get involved for this to work out.

Pass.

I’m good with building on this core.  We are well positioned as-is.

AD, for all his talent, isn’t much of a difference maker.  All show, no go.

Has he done anything in his career... ? Teams systems environments history are more important than an individual... if he wanted to win he should not sign the new contract. He preferred the money and not a career.... great player... should be more careful with his choices ... not willing to destroy our chemistry for one player.. irving hayward brown and tatum are our future....

As long as NO stays mediocre, the rumors will persist.

I used to want AD no matter what, but now I'm not so sure.  If he can't carry the Pels to competitiveness, you have to wonder how much of a transcendent talent he really is.

He was restricted. He was stuck there one way or the other.

I'd love to get AD, and I'd - grudgingly - sacrifice Brown and the LAL/SAC pick.

But no way I'd give up that plus Tatum. And my guess is that NO would rather just hold onto him, so it's a non-starter. And NO will have no real pressure to trade him until after the 18-19 season. The only way they'd trade him now would be if someone were to vastly overpay.

Trading Horford as part of it would be a dangerous move. It's one thing to trade an injured player with only one year on his deal. It's another to trade a healthy vet with 2+ years on his deal that you signed as a FA. Other FAs would not view Boston in such a good light if he shipped out Al less than 2 years into his contract.

By the time AD is really available, we'll have a much better idea of where we stand. Which may help - or hurt - our ability to acquire him. My guess is that Jayson is going to become an all-nba type player and we'll be a staunch contender with or without AD.

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism

Yeah, did anybody really expect one of the top 5 players in the NBA to play for the QO? If a player is offered a max extension after their rookie contract, they always accept it and then deal with everything else later. AD hasn't demanded a trade yet, but he may after the season is over.

I think the right coach would go a long way to show the real AD. I would not trade brown or tatum. They are a perfect combo IMO. I think we should see this team with Heyward before pursing any player past next year.

The Pelicans have arguably, 2 of the top 10 players in the NBA, and yet, are a below .500 team. Makes you wonder if AD and Cousins are winning players or just guys who hang stats.

Neither handle the ball. I think they would be smart to trade one of them for a promising wing and guard.
The only real mistake is the one from which we learn nothing.
