All Ainge had to do was not blindside IT.  Imagine if a modicum of respect is the differenve between the Celts landing their ultimate prize? Ouchies.

To his credit, it sounds like Davis has a good head on his shoulders.  And he has all the leverage right now.
What respect? Did Ainge ever told IT he won't trade him?

He blindsided his franchise player of 2 years.  He who singlehandedly dragged the team up from the dregs of the barrel.  That's disrespectful, poor business, and surprising to many -- as you can see here, that list includes Davis.  Tough break.

1. Zero chance of an AD trade anytime soon. Maybe in 3 years. He's under a long term deal for 23 mil per. Just not gonna happen and if it actually did, the price would be astronomical. We're talking about a Tatum/Brown/every relevant draft pick we have type of ask. Maybe when  AD has 1 year left on deal (same year Horford expires) it could make sense financially.

2. Trading for AD would add another $20+ mil contract on the roster. The luxury tax would become a massive issue. AD+AH+AD+KI = too much money tied to 4 players and almost zero depth.

3. AD's injury history is concerning.

Blindside? IT was making comments about backing up the Brinks trunk and wearing Brinks truck slippers. I love IT. But we all know DA is ruthless. If he didn't think he could go to the next step with IT, then he was right in making the move (regardless of what we who loved IT thought). He didn't want to pay him that much money for his age/hip issue.

How do you not blindside a player in a trade (who hasn't requested a trade)?

Do you think Danny should have called IT up a week earlier and said we're considering trades for you, but if they don't end up materializing we'd love for you to stick around?

Should Danny leak the trade talks to the press then drag the negotiating out for a few days so IT can have plenty of time to get comfortable with the fact that the C's might trade him?

Danny Ainge is good as his job. If Anthony Davis is traded, Boston will be at the top of his list. Don't let your bias towards the trade cloud your judgement of him going to the team that best gives him a chance at winning titles.

Everything that you stated is true.  And yet, the 2x all-star and All-NBA player was blindsided.  Many believe that is poor business, hence Davis' comment. Ironically, Davis' opinion is probably gospel to a considerable portion of Celtic fans.  Tough break.

1. This is why NOLA should do it now because it would net them the best treasure of players and picks. Ainge might be willing to dump the war chest on the table.
2. Horford goes bye bye if AD wears green
3. Yeah but he's really freaking good lol

I think people are reading too literal into Davis comment on IT. he was using it as an  example that the nba is a ruthless business. That's why he also used cousins/kings as an example too. It doesn't mean he hates the kings and Celtics. He used those to explain his point.

At the end of the day, he's aware the Celtics have been calling for him for years now. We aren't calling simply to flip him. He's the end game

this is the way i read his comment too....i did read it as a slur on Celtics .....not at all......he was just say n ypu never know when you meybe traded .....it could happen to me ......it has happened out of he blue to other stars ....Cousin and IT .....he was just using them as examples that NOBODY is really safe fron trades.  Some people are twisting his words.

He's an elite GM that handled a situation poorly.  It may come back to bite him.  Davis' comment necessarily questions the integrity of Boston's FO.  It would take some serious creativity to misconstrue "It makes you wonder: Does this organization really have my back?"

Davis talking about Celtics publicly just makes me sure that he thinks about coming here, otherwise, IMO it is just silly timing to talk any of this about us.

Honestly, if AD can't stay healthy, then I'm not too sure I would throw the kitchen sink at him.

Al + JT + LAL pick + whatever else is too much for me.

Hell, even Al + JT is pushing it. I reckon Tatum will be really really good, and completely cost-controlled
