This is assuming we are not paying Smart bug bucks and can't resign him. I'd love to see Smart get a chance to shine with the Green light. With 538 making comparisons to Denis Johnson in his prime it's not completely crazy to think he could put up similar numbers on a bad team with the Green light.
Hard to imagine smart ever putting up 19.5 ppg but DJ did it at 27 years old and took nearly twice the shots that smart currently does. .445% career 2p% for DJ .411% for Smart. .172% career 3 point% for DJ! Similar RPG APG and SPG stats for both players.

As for Fox he's been solid so far not great. Suspect 3 point shooter not a perfect fit, but his attitude and character are top notch and he would fit in perfect with the team.

Of course I’d do this. But you could throw in the Memphis pick and the Kings still wouldn’t.

I would do it. Kings wouldn't. They love the guy.

No idea who will be better between Smart and Fox, but the difference in contract situations makes this a no brainer.

only allure for the deal is the contract situation.  otherwise we'd be giving up an top defensive playmaker that can guard the 1-4 positions who has shown he's able to make big plays at the end of games to get the win.

Fox may be the better scorer but will he be the type of player you know will come up big down the stretch of games?  I'm not sure he is and I wouldn't throw Yabu into the deal to boot.

Fox has real all star potential.  If this were last year I would pause given the team's age- but with Smart's status being up in the air next year and 3 of the team's top 4 players being aged 19, 21 and 25- I'd roll the dice on this deal.

No way the Kings do this trade.

If I were Danny, I wouldn't do it either. But that's just me cause

- I love Smart
- I believe we are gonna resign him on the cheap next summer
- I'm not sold on Fox

Nothing Fox has done has alleviated any of the concerns I have with him originally..

Also I'm not giving up on Yabusele..

Ainge rarely misses on picks in the late lottery picks. (Sullinger doesn't count, because he clearly cared more about eating than actually becoming something.)

Comparing 3 pt % then to now is irrelevant. It was a different game. DJ took 80 3 pointers in his entire career. That's just a busy month for Marcus.

DJ was an ok shooter. Smart is one of the worst shooters in the NBA. A guy shooting 35% for his career vs. a guy who shot 44% is 2 completely different players, not similar, no matter how anyone tries to twist #s.

Ehh... Smart has good mechanics and shooting form though... Even though he's terrible at shooting, his FT% clearly says otherwise...

1. why?

2. I'm not giving up that Memphis pick unless we get a top 20 player back.
The Nets will finish with the worst record and the Celtics will end up with the 4th pick.

Trouble is the other team would laugh at this offer.

I agree with the 3 point, point. Let's not forget that smart is only 23 years old I believe. That was DJs second year in the league. I think DJs main advantage was ability to finish near the rim. If Smart could just do that he would compare well.
