And this was before the accident with Rivers
Age has not been kindly,he strong and has worked on skills but is not the Blake that comes to mind posterizing over everybody
This Clipper team in tailspin .How does this effect any draft picks we have?

Honestly, it's hard to think that the Clippers aren't a lottery team... if Blake's injury is significant (out 4+ weeks). If it is, I could see them blowing it up by trading DJ for a younger piece to a contender.

If that happens, our 2019 and 2020 picks are on life-support as they are lottery protected and would likely convey their 2nd rounder

Our Memphis Pick is looking better. I think they will spend to contend. Doc is gone before next year. Poetic Justice ;D.

I'm still hopeful that the Lakers will finish with around the 7th-8th worst record and get "lucky" and get the 5th pick. This is still very possible. Also, I believe they did change the lottery format to make it slightly more probable for lower teams to land higher picks.

Unfortunately, those changes don't go into effect until the 2019 draft.

No.  That's impossible.  If the Lakers are 7th or 8th worst, then they could only get 1st, 2nd, 3rd or some pick worse than 7 or 8.  They won't select the top 5 in the lottery until 2019.

Thanks for the clarification. That's too bad really and I still don't understand the NBA lottery. They should have changed it back to a true lottery where the 13th best record can still land the top pick. Now that is a lottery! Also, I don't understand why if you finish with the 7th best record picks 4-6 are off the table. None of it makes sense to me.

I've watched a fair few Clips games, and they seem to be giving Blake the ball out on the perimeter A LOT. He just doesn't have the quick first step to get around wing defenders.

Doc needs to seriously adjust the strategy. Getting Beverly back helps, but their shooting was gutted losing Redick and Jamal.

The 13th pick CAN win the lottery ... they do a weighted drawing for all teams 1-14 (1st pick has like 25% chance at top pick, 14th is < 1 %).  But, THEY ONLY DRAW THE TOP 3 SLOTS.  Then, each team is slotted after that by reverse order of their record.

With the lottery reform scheduled for 2019 there are 2 changes slated.

1) Odds won't favor the top teams as much
2) They will draw the top 5 slots

Hope this helps.  You can google it for more info.

Thanks for refreshing my memory. I knew this but could not recall. I guess would like to see a full lottery like they used to have. Oh well, won't be changing soon. I will now root for very bad things to happen to the Lakers.

Woj tweeted that Blake is expected to miss up to 2 months.

so glad we didn't get this washed up guy....always injured-waste of BIG money, way to go Clippers---your organization is back to where it belongs.

His shooting ability is gone too. And now injured badly. Is he one of the worst contracts in the league?

I believe Hayward will be better three years from now (or two years if he opts out of the final year), but this is kind-of an ironic statement given that 'our guy' has an injury that will keep him out for 81 games and the playoffs. Griffin is no spring chicken, but his production this year will blow away Hayward's.

On a related note, I REALLY hope Hayward does return this year. I haven't been able to find any recent updates. It's been 1 1/2 months - hope the rehab is going well!

This site is pretty good and you can click on "pick odds" for the info you want.

If the season ended today we'd have about an 8% chance of getting the Laker pick at #2 or #3.

I probably clicked that "sim lottery" button about a million times in the last three years. Glad those days are behind me. (Until next year I guess).
