Tanking after Hayward's injury

I think it's malicious to bump past threads and I want to keep classy, first of all.

But last night, as soon as the game ended, I could remember some people asking to tank after Hayward's bad injury in the first minutes of the season.

This was a terrible idea then, one of the worst in Celticsblog history. But it seems worse every game we play. This kids are not able to tank. This coaching staff is nos able to tank. These fans don't deserve to watch tanking.

I'm being quite bold here, but I honestly think we would be a border playoff team EVEN WITHOUT Irving, Horford and Hayward the whole season. We shot poorly yesterday, yes; but many shots didn't fall and they should have (in and out, iso missings, etc). But Rozier, Theis, Larkin, Ojeleye and Baynes with starter minutes could be even more productive than in their roles and carry this team to postseason. The core would be Smart, Jaylen, Tatum and Morris.

Do you agree? I'd like to read some opinions in this matter.

Tp, I agree with you.   I told people we are the Boston Celtics and we don't tank.  The reason I said it is that Ainge said this:

"We are not tanking. That's ridiculous. This is the Boston Celtics," Ainge said to the Boston Globe.

You and your darn memory Roy:-)))  But, I don't think Danny was here for the Duncan tank!  And I don't know IF we were really tanking in the 2006/2007 season as we were VERY YOUNG!! (Except for an already basically washed up Wally and a 29-year-old PP!).

No Ainge was not in charge for Duncan draft.  We had a lame duck coach/GM that year, I believe it was ML Carr.  He was followed by Rick Pitino, who ended up trading away two of our best picks of that decade -- Chauncey Billups and Joe Johnson.

Ainge did not take charge until 2003.  But he has been by far one of our most successful GMs.  There's a reason he has stuck around.  He took a lot of risks, made controversial moves, going into 2017 but those risks look to have paid off handsomely.

No way.  This team would be the one of the worst teams in the NBA without Kyrie and Horford.  Tatum is a stud, but can't do it alone.  Brown, as has been exposed in the last two games, is a nice young talent, but still struggles to create his own shot - which would be much, much harder with the defense not having to worry about Kyrie and Horford.  Smart would be taking more shots and hitting at a 33% clip.  Rozier is not ready to be the starting PG.

The only reason they came back last night is that Charlotte was historically bad on offense in the 4th.

Remember Ryan Gomes, the tank commander? Here's what he said on April 13, 2007 after a 102-104 home defeat to the Bucks.

"I probably (would have played), but since we were in the hunt for a high draft pick, of course things are different. I understand that. Hopefully things get better. Hope we don't have to find out. But I stand by my opinion that the Cs would be a 20 win team without Kyrie and Horford. And that's not really a knock on them. Take the two top players off any team and they'd all be horrible. Except GS who would be average.
