To be fair, that 3 was wide open and he was 3/5 from range at that point. Ill advised, maybe, but teams work incredibly hard to get shots as open as that.
You can't defend him taking that shot. Running down the clock would've taken it down to somewhere in the 30's and with a 4 pt lead (more if we hit the shot after the set). You can't take that shot. Period.
I get it and you're probably right. It's probably the wrong call in that situation but making that shot would've basically put the game away and I can't help but think that the confidence to take that shot is somehow related to the confidence required to come back from an 18 point deficit without your 3 highest paid players.
