I think with the assets we have right now we should be able to pick up a quality player with this exception. The ones I have in mind are Jabari Parker, Nerlens Noel, and Greg Monroe if he is bought out. I'm not exactly hip on the cap though, so is there a chance we could retain any of these players if we trade for them or would they all just be one year rentals, cause I'm not interested in trading valuable assets for a rental. And I don't think we should make a move til the deadline either

I’m almost certain the Celtics can’t pair the DPE with other assets

The DPE cannot be aggregated with other salary (via exceptions) to acquire a single player, but other assets can be included (i.e. players, picks, cash).

I see Danny waiting until someone surprisingly good gets bought out in a disgruntled player situation

Is there any sort of time limit on this? If not I can see DA holding onto this until he the right player becomes available or he has to fill a need (maybe through another injury). Right now there is no rush, especially if Horford and Tatum are not expected to miss many games.

I think Danny waits as long as possible unless there another major injury occurs.  It's such a long season and he has no way of knowing what will happen regarding the health of the team.  My best guess is that we would see him use it at the All-Star break or shortly after.

Marco Belinelli!!!

Shooting 45% from three (31st in the league).

Atlanta has NO business keeping him on their team as he is helping them WIN games, which they clearly do NOT want to do!!!!

Picks and cash, for sure.

I didn't think other players could be included, though.  Are you thinking something like $8 million TPE + $5 million player means we can bring in a $13 million player?

Players can be included, the Celtics just can’t use their salary for matching purposes.  The Celtics could send Yabusele to Philly and use the DPE to match Okafor’s salary, for example.  Philly can take on Yabusele using cap space or Okafor’s outgoing salary, and we take Okafor with the DPE.

Luol Deng would be a good option to consider.  Despite poor play last season, he is only 32 and probably still has some gas in the tank.  Besides, would you try very hard for a garbage team. Boy, the Lakers sucked last year.

Anyways, he could fill in for Hayward easily.  It is hard to ask Tatum and Ojeleye to hold down the fort for the entire season all on their own.  Right now they are doing a fantastic job, but when they hit the rookie wall it would be nice to have a backup plan besides Marcus Smart.  We already rely too heavily on Smart to help out on wing defense.  Deng would be able to put in those defensive minutes easily.  Anyone remember how lockdown he was with Thibs and the Bulls, same with Miami.
