what is with Brown's free throws?

Just saw the boxscore and Brown went 3 out of 8 on the FT line. It's rather worrisome to me because last year he shot 60 something % and this year I think he's hovering around 50%. What's wrong with him?

Oh apologies, I haven't watched the game (only the highlights after because I was busy this morning, living in HK=NBA games play in the morning). But what about the other ones? I don't want him get hacked lol.

Yeah I was a little worried about a concussion after Westbrook smashing him in the head then when he hit the deck in the paint.  He looked a bit disoriented at the line after that.

He got whacked hard in the head by Westbrook and then again later by Adams. He does get a pass for last night. I love everything about his game except the free throws. He can correct that with some practice. He is a perfectionist and I will bet he is practicing the free throws as we speak.

Free throws are 90% mental and guys just don't put the work into them because they are not glamorous.   I am pretty happy with the work he did this summer on his handle and his three and D.  So I can live with it.  Teamwise though it seems like it is not a priority.

What I loved about last night’s game for Jaylen was that his offense wasn’t there but he took up other things (12 boards, some great D) to maintain a positive impact. And he kept attacking and shooting his shot, and forcing the issue to the line even though he wasn’t making those. Signs of progress and poise.

he's young - it means he'll be inconsistent.

in brown's case as he gets older and he realizes how many times he's getting to the line a game that that could be an extra 10 pts. to his average he'll become more consistent.

Brown is my favorite Celtic but I'm not sure what these "Give Brown a pass, he was hit in the head" comments are about. It's not like he's shown the ability to be a decent FT shooter at any point during his career so far.

High School, NIKE/Adidas Summits, College, Summer League, Preseason, NBA, etc. he's been a below 70% free throw shooter for his entire basketball career.

It's not a problem I think he'll continue to have, he just needs to get his reps up.

I agree that the mental part is a huge components to the FTs, more so to guys that are not accurate. Still, 90% is a bit to high. If a guy has poor eye/hand dexterity, i cant describe it as purely mental. I think that guys work heavily on FTs, especially the ones who aren't hitting them. DJ, for example, has great work ethic, works like horse on them, but can't connect.

The weakest shooters are IMO guys who have the ambidexterity, as they dont have the "main hand" by definition and it can lead to not determining players true shooting hand early.

Jaylen is not a shooter, but I expect him to raise his FTs, just not this early in his career.
His previous FT record never was above 70%.
