Remove the cast earlier is a good thing since you have to worry about it having bad affect on your foot, that also means he has had a basic healing of his bone to a point it's OK to remove the cast

TP to a health professional who can explain exactly what this means.

Not a health professional but I have some experience in leg injuries.

It could likely mean that he's ready to put a bit of weight on the ankle. The boot helps distribute his body weight so it's not fully on his ankle. It's basically day 1 of physical therapy with the long term goal of being to walk normally.

I don't think it takes long for the bones to actually completely heal, maybe a month, so this to me just means that his bones are healing as planned (good thing).

Very true.  As a medical professional, I know for fact Hayward's hard cast would not have been removed if the bones weren't fusing properly.  He should likely be in a walking boot in 2-4 weeks.
