Bucks just waived James Young. Am I crazy for wanting Ainge to sign him as the last roster spot? Is it even possible to sign him now? I just feel like bringing back a guy that's been with the team for the last 3 years and seemed like a good locker room guy brings more stability to a roster that's mostly new. Since chemistry could still be an issue to start the season I think bringing Young back could only help. What do you guys think?

We need a big man. Otherwise, it wouldn't be the worst move.

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
Dude has the motivation/fire of a tootsie roll.
No thanks.
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.

The Bucks released him. That's all you need to know about thinking of signing him again.

He got worse as time went on. The non-contending bucks don't even have a 15th slot spot for him. He isn't worth it for the non-contending pelicans either. Don't think contending Celtics or danny want to waste more time or money on him

I as many Celtics fans were super high on him. It didn't happen. What sucks is at youngs draft spot we could have had gary Harris, or Rodney hood. Harris is one of the better shooting guards and underrated players in the game (avg 14pts/3/3/1 and 50/42/77%).

I wouldn't mind this but I think DA covets the roster flexibility and given our depth already, he is going to keep that roster spot open to send back and forth our 2-way contracts (Bird, Allen) from G League to NBA roster.

I wouldn't mind finding out what our investment (mid 1st round pick) in James Young could yield. I think he could still grow into an NBA rotational player.

We gave up on him for a reason. He had some promise but the impression I got was he never really put in the work. Never looked disciplined or particularly aware on the court. Maybe if he gets his stuff together in China we can give him the Gerald Green second look.

No thanks.

I thought he got his body in much better shape last year, and played better on D.  I just don't think he has a NBA motor though (could be Semi's problem too).  He also is an underwhelming athlete with really not much of a first step.

He is still very young though, and has that sweet lefty jumper so maybe he still has a chance to be something.

Sign him again in a few years after his stint in Russia.

I said it before the draft that I hope celtics don't pick Young at 17 cause I thought he b a bust...as a UK fan, the knock on him was his work effort..
C/PF-Horford, Baynes, Noel, Theis, Morris,
SF/SG- Tatum, Brown, Hayward, Smart, Semi, Clark
PG- Irving, Rozier, Larkin

Yeah, I was surprised we didn't take Gary Harris.  Hood is the popular pick in retrospect, but I thought Harris was destined to be a Celt.
