Was watching Hayward practice his shooting very relaxed, smooth stroke yet precise and it reminded me of tennis and practicing a serve.Well we all know how great Sam Jones shot the ball and those bank shots
.Well back in 1965, he gave an exhibition at Lexington High and must have gone 15 minutes not missing a bank shot ,then they brought out a setup with large sheet with a small hole and he proceeded to serve some extraordinary amount of serves without a miss-i'll wager both he and Hayward share some similar traits and skills that bode well for Hayward in the shooting department.

Makes sense to me.

I'm a big proponent of playing different sports to diversify players' skillsets. Hakeem playing soccer improving his footwork is the go-to but I think it applies to all kinds of sports and skills.

Everything is connected and often in ways he don't understand until we see the results.

Heyward did play Tennis a great deal as a youth. https://youtu.be/hYtG8Vd1hQA

Sam Jones was decades ahead of his time in  his use of the bank shot. Still, it's not widely accepted even though it's been scientifically proven to be more accurate than shooting straight-in  from certain angles and distances. Perhaps, by 2050 more shooters will catch on.

For sure. You can see it in his judgement calls too, like when to go for offensive rebounds or when to get back on defense.

I see the same kinds of benefits with Jaylen Brown playing competitive chess. He has a great feel for when to be patient and when to be aggressive, he also never seems to lose track of the shot clock.

You have to be pretty competitive to make it in the NBA and I bet lots of these guys are using lots of little things they picked up in other competitive endeavors.

And for some reason every shooter in the NBA seems to have a single digit golf handicap, so it can work the other way too apparently, as I doubt many of them started playing golf first.
