What's the role of Terry Rozier on this team

Watch Rozier's playoff highlights last year. Watch him last night against the Hornets. That is what he is. Once in awhile he knocks it out of the park and the rest of the time, he plays his role.

He plays hard and knows the system. I don't see the gain from focusing on all the things Terry Rozier "is not." Stevens uses him correctly and Ainge will keep him or trade him as needed.

Now that the Celtics are in a "new era" with three big salaries, the Roziers of this world at $1.9M look ok. Next year at $3M....?

Next year at $3 million he's also perfectly valuable. The following year at $4.3 million (his qualifying offer) is also a nice number.  To get a multi-year deal in 2-3 years he needs to take a step or two forward, but he's a useful reserve right now, and has the potential to take those steps.

His role is to play with energy, hit opened threes, run hard after grabbing a defensive rebound and to stay in front of guards.

Simplified, he has to come up with the bone, thrown between 4 other guys. He is fortunate enough to be on a contract that will dissuade DA to trade him soon. He has some time to grow into AB 2.0, 3&D guard with a more useful handle.

Any time a player picked outside top-5-10 on their rookie deal is a rotation player, it's a W.

Playoff Rotation players for less than the MLE are a W.

First year, d league, second year, works into the rotation. Leaves two years of useful play on the cheap. Rozier is another good guard pick by DA.

Backup PG is his role.
Smart leaving in FA insurance is his role. Rozier (and Brown) making progress makes the possibility of losing
Smart in FA a survivable event for the team on the court.

He's nothing but a positive on this team. He can help us with his play or his trade value.

I think Rozier will be a spark plug type off the bench. It's only one preseason game but the team looked lost with him running the point and settled down nicely when Larkin came in. It was night and day. Rozier needs to work off the ball or dribble up into the half court set and let someone else be the play maker. There are lots of guys on this squad that you can run offense through. TR is better hitting open shots than generating offense.

With Brown moving to SG and Smart running the bench offence, what is the role of Rozier on this team?

Rozier has similar skill set to Smart and Brown, and Larkin looks more comfortable being a point guard. If Brown and Tatum develop as expected, there will be less minutes for Rozier. So is Rozier's role on this team just a 5th guard off the bench to provide some spark and energy?

I would say it's most likely that Smart plays the SG spot off the bench, with Rozier starting at the PG.  Or vice versa. 

IMHO Rozier is a clear step above the other guards (Larkin and Nader) in terms of talent and Danny/Brad seem to have quite a bit of trust in him these days given the role got got in the playoffs last season. 

There were also quotes from Danny / Brad (can't remember which) stating that Smart and Rozier will be taking on more of a leadership role this year, which seems to further cement that theory.

10-15 minutes per night, backup pg. He'll get a decent opportunity facilitating Brown and Tatum.

He's not a PG, he's small for a SG. He still has some upside, and at times shows well.

Showcase him to the 76ers.

Danny sure loves combo guards, and could have developed an allergy to bigs. Pretty decent draft record on guards.  Some nice role players. Like he was. Finds talent in the 20's.
