One of the best player articles I've read...I was hurt to see him traded and I wish him the best of luck in Cleveland. Also we need to at least hang his name on the rafters, his 2 and a half years with us were nothing short of legendary.

That had to be the HARDEST Players Tribune I've ever read. Dang...  :'(

It especially hit me when he said, "I can never become KG, or Ortiz.." etc.

Losing Isaiah in this fashion just sucks and I'm going to miss all he brought to the team the last 2.5 years. Even with some of his flaws, you have to admit, he was extremely exciting to watch and ultimately brought Boston back on the map.

And frankly, he may not be wrong when he says, "I don't think this trade helps Boston." We'll just have to see.

I never thought IT would be traded.
There is a limit to trade someone (I thought wrongly).
Still puzzled how it is possible to trade someone who put historical Celtics numbers and give it all for the city.
First time in a decade that Danny disappoint me. And he did it big time.
I watch the Celtics because it's the only franchise capable to elevate great players like IT with their winning culture and pride.
I'm a bit less of a Celtics fan now, if that makes any sense.
I'm very hurt.

If you appreciate the Celtics (Brad Stevens in particular), and their ability to "elevate great players" just imagine how much better Kyrie could be in our program.

I love IT. Love him. He did so much for our franchise. He put us back on the map, he recruited for us, he put this team on his back and was a natural leader during his time here.

The hardest part of the article for me (emotionally speaking) was when he spoke about his vision of his legacy in Boston. He wanted to be an all-time Celtics great, and I shared that vision with him. It would have been nice to see him continue his success with this team and win a few championships here...oh well.

I wonder if he will be successful in Cleveland. Hopefully he doesn't play this season then leaves in the off-season..after LeBron..after we beat them ;)

I will miss the little guy. He was amazing

And that parent, man, they’re going to think back to themselves — really think on it. And then they’re going to smile, and tell the truth.

“I saw Isaiah Thomas play.”

That would make me very happy. For me, I think, that’d be enough.

As someone who fell in love with Pierce but missed the first half of his career, this is so true. I saw him from beginning to end, the highs and the lows. Just amazing.

Thank you IT
The Nets will finish with the worst record and the Celtics will end up with the 4th pick.

Well what is a player supposed to say? The team that traded him is better? His new team just isn't as good? Just sounds good, doesn't mean much.

So basically, right now we are the ugly duckling in a John Hughes movie who just got a makeover, got popular, dumped the nice guy from the neighborhood and starting dating the captain of the football team.

IT, you were only here for a couple of years and change, but I think it's fair to say the impact you made, both on and off the court, is greater than the sum of that. Thanks for doing us proud during your time here.

Great read.  So many awesome memories from IT.

29 points in the 4th quarter against the Heat.  Easily among the greatest moments of basketball I've witnessed.
Playing in Game 1 against the Bulls just after his sister died tragically and still managing to drop 33 points.  I can only recall but very few instances where I was more disappointed that the Celtics did not win a game than our team failing to win Game 1 against the Bulls for Isaiah.
53 point playoff performance against the Wiz.
Leading the C's to the playoffs the very season he gets traded to us that set the tone for the next two seasons where we progressively improved and ultimately made it to the ECF just last season.

And so many more.  Everyone should be grateful for what IT did for the C's.  The idiot who burned IT's jersey should be banished from the city of Boston.

Nothing but love for IT forever.  And make no mistake - if Cleveland beats us and goes to the Finals again to face Golden State, I will be rooting heavily for the Cavs as much as I hate them.  IT is one of those special players who deserves a ring before his career is said and done.

I haven't read a ton of Player's Tribune postings, but that's easily the best I've seen.  Isaiah's got his head on straight.  A likable character for sure.

Perfectly done.
Yup

Great analogy!

Also, IT4 doesn't think the Boston Celtics got any better with that trade.

Well you won't be getting a max contract any time soon with that hip injury lol. The Cavs aren't getting any better in the long run either when LeBron leaves and you're stuck with Tyronn Lue. IT4 is sure talkative now.

Anyone else thinks this seems oddly petty and meanspirited? Way to boil down the entire point of the article to a single throwaway where he basically says "I don't think Kyrie is better than me" and turn that into some sort of weird slight.
I'm exactly as worried about this as I am about Pierce saying he's the best player in the world. That's precisely the attitude I expect from a leader on our team.
"I don't know half of you half as well as I should like; and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve."
