Because if it doesn't work out for the Pelicans (the AD-Cousins experiment), they will look to flip Cousins for value as he's an expiring deal, and I highly doubt any team will come up with a better deal than Cleveland if they offer that BKN Pick.

So CLE could trade BKN pick + salary pieces for Cousins...

I mean... Ainge couldn't have tried harder to keep Zizic in this deal?? C's must not have been high on Zizic honestly after the SL. There's no way Zizic is just some "throw in" in this deal, especially with many saying that Zizic could have been a Top-10 pick in this previous draft.

Ainge really took a gamble here, and gave up a lot IMHO. Even if it's for Kyrie Irving.

Why in the world would they trade that Brooklyn pick for Cousins? They're not trading it altogether, let alone for someone who went for substantially less last trade deadline.

That Nick Wright Lebron fanboy has really pushed this narrative out of nowhere.

Salaries would not have matched without Zizic.

While I'm not sure about specifics, I think one of the disappointments in the Kyrie trade is that we didn't add a star. Rather, we replaced one. We still have the same "two stars and a quasi-star" that we had after Hayward signed, except now we have less trade flexibility to add to the core.

Was he the one who created this rumor?

I actually posted this because I've seen MANY posters on other media sites (FB, Twitter, etc.) say this and if Cavs truly want to win-now, Cousins could be the answer.

But he's also a FA next summer and Cavs I doubt can afford to keep him and Lebron and others...

If Danny wanted cousins, he would have gotten him. Cousins is a headcase and teammates don't want to play with him

Well, he's been the one pushing it hardcore on social media.

But you don't have to worry. Cleveland is NOT trading that pick unless it looks to be worse than anyone expected. The whole point of taking our trade over other trades was to have that blue-chip pick to build around if/when Lebron leaves.

It'd have to be a Godfather offer for them to give that one up, and I don't think they even want Cousins anyways.

I never even said in my original post that I wanted to trade for Cousins now or next season.

We now have 2 stars and a quasi star.  Before this trade we had a star and two quasi stars. Isaiah has been a star for this year - not enough for me to declare him a legit star - and I say one bc stars don't get stopped like Isaiah did in playoffs against the hawks.  Isaiah did get stopped far too often this playoffs too but with his hip and sisters death I'm willing to assume he made the adjustments not to get stopped except for those external issues.  With potential lingering hip issues I don't think it's fair to put Isaiah as anything but a quasi star currently.

That said I do agree with you that this was an upgrade only - not a pure addition of a star like Hayward was.

Cleveland won't trade that Brooklyn pick to win now unless lebron signs an extension.

Let them mortgage their post-LeBron future on Cousins. All the more dysfunction to screw up their chemistry with.

As far as "basically" iterations of the trade go, I prefer thinking of them this way, helps me visualize the values better:

Kyrie for Fultz

Tatum and Lakers/Kings pick for Isaiah, Crowder, Zizic, and the Brooklyn pick

I would make each of those trades a hundred out of one hundred times. But as they really were seems riskier, more even and uncertain. This way I am certain I want Kyrie over Fultz, if that had been the deal, straight up, and I'm almost just as certain I would easily then trade Isaiah, Crowder, Zizic for Tatum, #1 overall on the C's board. The Brooklyn and Lakers picks are kind of a pick 'em value-wise, a wash.

Supposedly the big get for them was the Brooklyn because it allows them to be ready for a possible Lebron departure. Trading it for Cousins would completely turn that on it's head. Imagine Lebron leaves for LA and DeMarcus signs in Dallas. That'd be a disaster.

No way they trade that pick unless Lebron indicates he's going to resign. That seems like a long shot at this point.
