I hope IT absolutely tears it up.  I hope he has the best season of his career.  I hope he shows all the signs of health he needs to to get his big payday.  And I hope he makes the Cavs an even more well-oiled machine, enough that it looks like they could beat the Warriors.

And then I hope we absolutely steamroll them on our way to #18.  Screw hoping that he stays out so we have an easier road to the finals. I wish him all the best, but I wish the Celtics even better.
I'm bitter.

Aside from the emotions my guess is he won't do much next year

I am a doctor and i don't believe when you have rehab for 3 months and you still can't run shows any good sign on this injury, my guess is his injury will drag and when he finally come back he won't be effective and the injury relapse and he has to finally take the surgery then be out of the season

That being said i think he should take the surgery now..

It's coldblooded but if that's how it plays out then we win both the trade and the East.

I really admire IT for a lot of the same reasons as other posters on this board. That being said there is a chance he doesn't play for most of the season. I want IT to be healthy so he can get paid, but if he takes a different approach to his healing and misses the season the Celtics are incredibly likely to make the finals behind Hayward, Irving and horford.  :-\

I understand your point, I share it to some degree but I am really not conflicted.  I fully expect IT to play and play well.  I think words like "courageous" are going to be used to describe his season.  I also fully expect that the Cavs, with IT and Crowder, will continue to be better than the Celtics for one more season.  I am OK with that.  Our time is coming very soon.

I hope IT plays a relatively healthy season and plays great and Irving outplays him and the Celtics beat the Cavs in the ECF.

Then IT leaves Cleveland for a big payday.

Yeah, I hope he's able to get a significant raise from some team, but I still hope his recovery is slow enough that it slows him down considerably against us in the playoffs.

I'm still skeptical that IT and Lebron will mesh as well as some people here believe, but I don't want a motivated IT trying to outperform his old team in the playoffs.

That being said, you can also make the same argument for Kyrie, and he doesn't provide nearly as much of a defensive weakness as IT. So...
I do. And I want to see this Celtic team overcome that and beat the Cavs anyway. I want to see these Celtic take on the best and beat them.

I feel very bad about poor people in Africa, refugees coming to Europe risking their lives with no possessions with them or the 4 million unemployed in my country.

If a person who has won 32 million dollars (plus sponsorships) worries us for not being paid, we (as a society) have a very big problem.

No reason to feel conflicted.  Ainge made the trade because a realistic view of IT's future includes him probably missing some of this season and taking an injured hip forward into his next contract making it possible that he misses more time.

Hope he can get the money he earned last year playing for Celtics. He deserves a good contract .   Always seem suspect to me Danny was going resign him for a max. even healthy.

Somebody mention in another thread ,  LOL ...IT always kinda walked with a small hitch anyway to me . Maybe he ll be 100% soon.

If I was Cleveland , I would not play him till 2/3 season is over .  Save him for the playoffs .  But, I see Lebron balkng at that idea ....because he is always trying to conserve himself .   Lebron having to exert himself every game to rack up reg season wins  is not going to make the king happy.

Wish the best for IT !

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism

Yeah, TP, Dario. There are a lot of injustices in the world; IT is lucky that he gets to be incredibly rich playing the game he loves.

I hope he does get himself a nice contract someday (if not next off-season), but the NBA salary scale only recently got out of control. Heck, Larry Bird only made $26.5M over his career and remember Bill Russell's legendary $100,001/yr contract? I understand that players should compare themselves to their peers, but IT isn't hurting. If he never played another game, he would have a very good situation to fall back on.

As for this upcoming season, I am okay with IT not tearing it up - at least not against us.

Not me, I don't wish him ill but I don't root for guys once they leave the team.   I do hope he has a speedy recovery but to me the CAVs are the enemy.

I like IT, I respect IT, I wish him no i'll will. He's a talented exciting NBA player, and good for the league in general. But I'm not gonna sit around my house with his underwear around my head praying for his success either.

IT is the official NBA underdog, he is the mascot of all those who desire the underdog to make good.
He's 5-9, drafted last in his draft year, under-appreciated, traded from team to team until he made good with the C's. He fills the dreams of many I'm sure. But the facts remain, he's a wealthy young man with a great family, living in a mansion. And like most everyone else...he wants more!

But now, he's no longer on my team. My goal for this year is watching the Celtics beat Cleveland, and get into the finals...that simple.

I like him. I respect what he did for us in the playoffs last year. I don’t want anything bad to happen to him. I’d argue living in Cleveland is as bad enough however. But I’m not torn up about him being gone because I don’t think we can win it all with him as our best player. I’m not saying we can do it now without him, but I really don’t think we could with him.  I'll clap for him but want his team to go down to the Celtics for now on.

Also, it was really strange liking a guy with the same name as a Pistons player I hated.

Kyrie is a great basketball player, but I don't want to be married just for the sake of being married.

I like IT a lot more than any of the current Celtics, and dislike nearly everything about Kyrie.  I'll wish the team success, but will root for IT to make it to the Finals this year.

Huh? You feel conflicted that the celtics are going to be better after making this trade?

Maybe you aren't a fan?
