The best college coach is John Wooden.   Coach K is very good but I suggest you look up Wooden and Coach K.  Geno Auriemma is almost as good on he woman's side as Wooden.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NCAA_Division_I_Men's_Basketball_Tournament_records#Multiple_championship_coaches

Not to sidetrack, but Wooden coached in a very different era. It's a heckuva lot easier to win a basketball tournament with 25 teams versus 64. Since they skipped the first round, UCLA played 4 games to win their tournaments versus 6 today and the college basketball landscape wasn't as competitive - the tournament didn't really start until the final 4.

Coach K has far more total wins and almost double the tournament wins that Wooden has and did so in a much more competitive era. Each made 12 Final Fours - again, something that is twice is difficult with 64 teams than with 25. Coach K also won 3 Gold Medals. Both are great coaches but the case can easily be made that K is the better coach. If you're of a different opinion then that's fine and feel free to start a new thread if you want to discuss this further.

I think there's minutes for one of them to get a shot.

Kyrie 32 / Rozier 16
Brown 26 / Smart 22
Hayward 32 / Smart 8 / Tatum 8
Morris 26 / Tatum 8 / Yabu 7 / Semi or Theis 7
Horford 30 / Baynes 18

I'd imagine Yabu is given a chance early, while Semi is more likely to be fighting with Theis in practice.
Philly:

Anderson Varejao    Tiago Splitter    Matt Bonner
David West    Kenyon Martin    Brad Miller
Andre Iguodala    Josh Childress    Marquis Daniels
Dwyane Wade    Leandro Barbosa
Kirk Hinrich    Toney Douglas   + the legendary Kevin McHale

I think Smart gets the start over Brown. I also see Brown logging some minutes at the three.

Something like:

Kyrie 32 / Rozier 16
Smart 32 / Brown 8 / Rozier 8
Hayward 32 / Brown 8 / Tatum 8
Morris 26 / Brown 8 / Tatum 8 / Yabu or Semi or Theis 8 (based on matchup)
Horford 26 / Baynes 8 / Yabu or Theis 8 (if we're going small)

Our bigs are a mess. Zizic would have been great for 8 min a game. Hopefully, Tatum can take the starting spot from Morris right away, but given that he's a bit thin and a rookie, I really doubt that'll happen.
My biases, in order of fervor:
Pro:
Smart, Brown, Hayward, Tatum, Kemba, Grant Williams, Sleepy Williams, Edwards!

Anti:
Kanter, Semi, Theis, Poierier

This thread sure went sideways!

It did, didn't it? Who would have thought someone would get so testy about a Lord of the Rings thread?

Getting back on topic, I'm interested to see what both guys can do. Brad actually had started to recruit Semi back in High School so there's an awareness there. Stevens already has praised Semi from Summer League and if he can play good defense he's in line to be the next Jae Crowder.

Jaylen Brown will be an All Star in the next 5 years.

I'm starting to wonder is Theis won't be the guy who fills the role we're talking about, at least this season. He was a DPOY in his German league and can shoot 3's. If he can be German Jae Crowder with PF size, he could be a real asset.

Theis played 19 mpg in the Bundesliga last season, mostly coming off the bench. I wouldn't get my hopes too high.

I like the way he moves. But he's only 210, like Tatum.

I've only ever seen highlights, wouldn't say that I've got a good feel for his game.

Ah, okay, looks likely I stand corrected.

Basketball Reference has him at 215 - not obvious why the discrepancy, since the Celtics website has him at 243, as you say; that should probably be the authority. I don't recall where I got 210...!

Anyway, thanks for the correction.

All 16 minutes that Kyrie Irving is not playing, we should have Marcus running point.

What? Two conflicting facts on the internet? How is that possible?

I believe Gandhi is the only person who knew about real democracy — not democracy as the right to go and buy what you want, but democracy as the responsibility to be accountable to everyone around you. Democracy begins with freedom from hunger, freedom from unemployment, freedom from fear, and freedom from hatred.

I love all the young guys. It feels like Semi has a chance to be something special. The way that his game "translates" (as BS said), fits perfectly into the way the league is evolving.

Obviously, Jaylen and Tatum are our gems, but Semi looks really polished to me, and hopefully he can get some minutes.

I hear a lot of people saying that guys like Semi will be lucky to even scratch the surface of getting playing time, however the Kyrie trade made us a bit thin on depth, so I expect to see more contribution from rookies this year as opposed to the last few seasons. Plus he's 22.

As for Semi at the 4- sure. Why not? He could work in a small ball line up.

Yabu- I really hope he can contribute. Everyone keeps saying that he is highly skilled for a "bulky" player.  I've even heard whispers of Larry "Grandmama" Johnson comparisons, which sounds great, but I think if anyone is being over hyped, it's Yabu, not Semi.

I also have high hopes for Nader, he seems to be well rounded enough to give us some Delonte-esque grit and fire-power.

And Tatum!!! What a stud! I am extremely pleased with the young guys on our team. The sky is the limit!
Truuuuuuuuuth!
