Barkley is complimenting the Celtics? Given how wrong he often is, I'm not sure this is a good thing.

This is the same dumbass who complained about IT crying over his sister's death, said the Cs were a "middle of the road" team when they won 48 games and were only one of 10 teams in NBA history to win 45 games and have a top 5 pick in the draft. And oh, those guys generally turned out really well.

PLAYER   TEAM   WINS   YEAR   PICK
Greg Ballard   Washington   48   1977   4
Mychal Thompson   Portland   58   1978   1
Magic Johnson   LA Lakers   47   1979   1
Kevin McHale   Boston   61   1980   3
James Worthy   LA Lakers   57   1982   1
Charles Barkley   Philadelphia   52   1984   5
Sam Bowie   Portland   48   1984   2
Len Bias   Boston   67   1986   2
Darko Milicic   Detroit   50   2003   2
Jaylen Brown   Boston   48   2016   3

Out of 9 players (can't include Jaylen yet), that's 4 true-blue HOFers. Ballard and Thompson were above average. Bias died before playing a game. The only true busts were Bowie (drugs) and Milicic (dumb choice). Those are pretty decent odds. But according to Chuckie, we were a middle of the road team.

Charles Barkley = Overblown Blowhard

He didn't complain about IT crying, he was complaining about how the media was exploiting IT's tragedy for a storyline during the playoffs. He was 100% right.
I remember him saying that if IT can’t handle it, then he shouldn’t be out there at all since he was a distraction to his team

2021 Houston Rockets
PG: Kyrie Irving/Patty Mills/Jalen Brunson
SG: OG Anunoby/Norman Powell/Matisse Thybulle
SF: Gordon Hayward/Demar Derozan
PF: Giannis Antetokounmpo/Robert Covington
C: Kristaps Porzingis/Bobby Portis/James Wiseman

That’s his response to all the backlash he got from his original statement. That’s not the original quote that got everyone upset

Can't believe I used to respect these 90ies players.

Now they all come off as a bunch of clueless, fat clowns.
In the summer of 2017, I predicted this team would not win a championship for the next 10 years.

3 down, 7 to go.

What exactly about this is clueless? Or are you just being a pessimist for the sake of it?

I can't understand where the negativity is coming from in this thread... and who would disagree with Barkley's statement anyway?  I think most reasonable basketball fans who look at our recent performance, the hayward signing, growth of our youngsters, and copious future first round picks would all say that we'll be one of the contenders over the next 10-years.

And Barkley never said that if IT can't handle it he shouldn't be out there.  You are remembering incorrectly, but seem to have gotten yourself worked up over something that never happened.

We need a big who is a young star to seal the deal for a long term contender status.

You sure? Look at the last 3 NBA title teams

Horford will only be around a few more years, and we'll need a replacement comparable to his level at least IMO.  The Warriors have Green and the Cavs Love as PFs.

This is where you hope one of the young bigs like Yabu pan out to be a star.  Always can't rely on FA to bring a stud in.  Hopefully we have our Green already on our roster in Yabu or Semi.

If Brown, Tatum, and the Lakers/Kings pick develop into all stars, that's a potential core for the next 10-12 seasons. In the meantime, if Ainge can surround this core of Irving, Hayward, Horford with enough talent while the youngsters develop then, yes, this team could contend for the next decade.

Lots of things can go wrong but I' excited about watching this team for a while.

No, I'm being pessimistic because there's every reason to be pessimistic.

This team isn't winning ****. The Warriors will eat our breakfast, steal our lunch money, and when we come home for dinner, they'll be in bed with our mom.

Bon effing appetit.

If you truly believe that "Mr Flat World" will get the same kind of open looks he got while playing with Lebron, you got another thing coming. We just paid another Brooklyn pick to... get the same result we would've gotten without making this deal. Kyrie's nowhere near good enough to put us over the hump.

Misguided competitiveness killed the cat.

Don't forget the Memphis pick too.  That could be a great draft pick in 2 to 3 years.  I hope the bottom falls out for that team.

What a wet blanket you are. Tell me, what was your master plan for the summer to put us ahead of the warriors? Or are you one of those people that lives to complain and does so no matter what?
