A league source said Boston will not rush to fill the spot, and might even keep it open to maintain flexibility. The Celtics this week have been in contact with representatives of several free agents. According to another league source, that group includes center Andrew Bogut, who considered signing with Boston last February before ultimately agreeing to a deal with the Cavaliers. Bogut broke his leg in his first game with Cleveland, though, and has spent this summer rounding back into form.

"rounding back into form" = "trying to convince people he's still an NBA player"

Not convinced Bogut should be our choice. Not only is his injury history of great concern, isn't he pretty redundant with Baynes here already? I'd prefer someone like Lavoy Allen or David Lee who could better slot in next to Baynes off the bench.
Recovering Joe Skeptic, but inching towards a relapse.

I'd rather go for JaMychal Green or Tony Allen.

Morris slots next to Baynes. Who slots with Horford if Baynes gets hurt?

You can't play Horford 48 minutes a game, and you can't play Baynes 48 minutes a game. There is no one on the squad that can really play the BIG except Horford and Baynes. Morris and *maybe* Yabs or Theis can play small ball center, but Morris really isn't a big and both Yabs and Theis are unproven rookies.

IMO, the Celtics need a "break glass in case of emergency" center. Zicic could have been that emergency big, but he's gone. He needs to be replaced by someone. Bogut, if he could stay on the court, would be a good get. Zeller is a possibility. Anyone better is going to cost dear assets.

And now things shift more into the '08-12 mode where we turn to aging vets looking for a shot at a ring (or another ring).

Yeah put me in the column of being done with David Lee as well.  Is that all there is for bigs out there Bogut and Lee?  Hopefully we have some other options.

His injury last season is the only thing that worries me, but I'd love to have Bogut here.

When guys like Gortat and Lopez give us trouble, especially in playoffs, then having Baynes and Bogut as our "bruisers" could really help in that regard.

And even in just 20 minutes a game last season, Bogut averaged like 8-9 rebounds a game AND was pretty key in 2 of the Warrior's Playoff runs (and they unfortunately blew a 3-1 lead after Bogut went down).

Plus, like Irving, Bogut does have the championship pedigree which could be a bit valuable to the young guys.

Definitely would not mind this.

Yeah his offense may be limited but the Celtics really do need guys who can grab the boards late in games and actually have a presence in the paint, and I think Ainge knows this too.
